alone together | nia and dylan.
“You know, the shower hasn’t been used in a long, long time.” Dylan nudged at his girlfriend, his eyebrows wiggling as he collapsed onto the bed. After finally putting all six kids to sleep, the lack of sleep for him seemed to catch up to the actor. “Or we can just cuddle. I like cuddles. My girlfriend is good at that. I’m cold.” He teased in a joking tone as he sighed heavily in near dramatic motion. “If I didn’t feel like an old man before, I definitely feel it now.”

alone together | mari ad jack.
Ever since the Disney trip when the couple had made their relationship official, Jack knew that the two had little to no time spent together. Of course, when jobs and babies and a wedding got in the way of it, it was hard to compromise any time at all. However, while on his own workout session, the male thought it would be much more entertaining for Mari to join him. Quickly texting his girlfriend of his plans, he soon waited for her to join him as he sat by the medicine ball, his torso wet with sweat, his tank top stuck to his own body. Jack understood that Mari was busy with work, but while he was conveniently on hiatus from tour, it seemed almost impossible to plan any necessary alone time, if any came to play. After sending the last text and threads over, he decided to not respond and wait for Mari to make her appearance. Thankfully, Loyal was being taken care of by Skate, Jack’s best friend so he could take a few hours off to keep his mind at ease. Periodically he would feel the urge to call him to make sure his eldest daughter was fine, but in the back of his mind he knew she was. And now wasn’t the time to be worrying about her safety when it shouldn’t have been a question to begin with. Running sweat hands through his hair, Jack picked up his water bottle loosely before taking in a few sucks of water that seemingly cooled his insides easily.

For most of their coffee stop, as he sips from his mug and watches his partner make an obscene spectacle out of enjoying a simple slice of pie, keeping the texts secret still seems like the best course of action. The safest for Dale, the one that places the least burden on his shoulders. Albert needs to believe that he can handle this on his own.
But the spirit mentioned him, too. The spirit knows. Before they make it back to the car, he takes a deep breath and, in the same flat tone he would use for any other complaint, he says:
“Coop, we need to talk.”
It’s easier when they park the car and Albert can touch and pat and kiss him in a constant search for reassurance. But on the road, when silence falls and he gets lost in the horizon ahead for minutes at a time, every sideways glance means waking up from an old dream to find himself thrown into a fleeting, terrifying one. The passenger’s seat should be empty if not for memories and regrets. It is empty. This is not real.
Albert’s sleep is deep tonight, his dreams troubled. A veil protects and blinds him.
I still don’t know how he does it.
