When the first show come out, I watched with my sister but after season two I stopped watching it but sister kept watching it. I guess for me, I couldn't stand to watch what would happen to Erica or Byrod (I know I spelled his name wrong, sorry!) And I guess I just lost interest, I guess. But I've been enjoying reading your story because it makes me feel like I'm watching the show but a better version of it. Still unsure if I should watch the show again though...
I understand completely, sweetling. I mean, I’m a picky lady and when I only like a certain season or series of episodes, that’s all I watch. Hell, I won’t watch anything past David Tennant in DW, and I usually don’t bother going past the Rose episodes bc I just don’t enjoy the other one as much. I’m really glad that the rewrite has been nice for you, though. That means a lot!
What happened to Boyd and Erica is frustrating, but when I first watched the show, I had such high hopes. I was so excited! Derek was gonna get his Betas back and they were gonna be better than ever and they would fight off a pack of Alphas by proving that you don’t need to be an Alpha to be powerful, being in a strong, close-knit pack is enough! And then...that isn’t what happened. And I was devastated. As someone pointed out in a post recently (no chance of remembering where though) Erica is the first female shifter we get.
She got a little bit of background, she had this gorgeous love of being a wolf, and she represented a lot of us. Bullied, feeling unattractive, desperate to be noticed in a good way for once. I related to her so much, and I was so fucking upset with what happened. Then they brought Cora in instead, but it was so hard to relate to her the same way. She was so angry, and the first scene we have with her where she’s actually herself, she blows up at Derek for no fucking reason and it all just, made it hard for me to get attached. (I mean, now, after years of fanfic and having seen S3A a couple times, I love her to bits (or at least the little hints at her we get when she’s not busy being a rage machine/Derek copycat)) Then, they got rid of her. Great.
We had Kira, but she wasn’t a werewolf, she was a kitsune, and while it was super interesting, I was sort of watching the Teen Wolf show for the werewolves? And then Malia, who also isn’t a werewolf, but at least a coyote is closer? Only I hated the way she treated Stiles and how her personality was literally just “Cannot cope with the human world” and nothing else for the first full season she was in.
Anyway, I’m rambling. I just mean, that I get you. I understand your frustration. I can’t tell you whether to try watching the show again, either. There are a lot of tiny moments that just sort of shine amongst the drudgery of it, but there’s also a lot of pain. I wasn’t kidding about it getting darker and darker as the series goes on.
Either way, my rewrite will be there for you, coming out as quickly as I can manage to get it together (which isn’t all that fast, I admit). And I’m glad that you’ve still found a bit of a home in the fandom, despite some of the disappointments of canon.
