Hey. I love your webcomic, but I’m curious about something. How hard was to change the personalities of the famous characters you’re using? I enjoy how contradictory they are to their original personas. Dr. Frankenstein embracing mad science stereotypes where Mary Shelly’s ran from it. Hyde fanboying debauchery and cannot be taken seriously as a villain. You reshaped them to fit the comedies of your world which just makes it all the more hilarious. I bet it was a challenge to make it this good.

Honestly, any changes to the characters were just the result of a very long development process. I tend to “sit” with characters for a long time before they make it to the final page. I don’t believe in changing characters just to make them “fresh” or “edgy”, although if a particular scene or character relationship is feeling stale, I will sometimes search around for changes that would help push the scene in a different direction, i.e. “What if Character A was totally unfazed by Character B’s antics instead of freaking out over them?” or “What if this scene was told from Character C’s perspective rather than Character D’s? How would that change the conflict of the moment?”

In Frankenstein’s case, she actually was Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein*--fifteen years ago. Her current personality is a result of fifteen years of Byronic wandering through the wilderness with an increasingly rigid personal narrative designed to protect her own ego. She couldn’t have survived this long bearing the full weight of the atrocities she caused. It’s much easier to say, “Yeah, so I am responsible for these atrocities. But so what? That’s just what mad scientists do. In fact, all those atrocities just make me a better mad scientist! Ha! Ha!”**

Originally, Jekyll was supposed to have met the younger version of Frankenstein in his youth, but that event was replaced by his encounter with Morcant in Bleeding Heart. We will be seeing hints of the younger Frankenstein in chapters to come, though.

*minus the gender change, which was primarily an “fuck it, why not more diversity?” move on my part.
