We set out along the Mawddach Trail at six yesterday morning to beat the heat and get to Barmouth in time to catch the rising tide.

This was my first time seriously riding the not-electric Whyte bike I picked up from a mechanically clueless man the other week. Obnoxiously my chain snapped and then snapped again once repaired, so my partner's brother gave me a tow for the last two kilometres into town, which was kinda fun. Max's lead was pretty effective as a towstrap, nicenicenice.

My partner and I had small full Englishes for breakfast in Barmouth, which were served to us as "children's breakfasts", ahaha. His brother had a sausage bap without the judgement.

Then we were off to the beach. The tide was set to turn a bit before ten.

First time setting up the packrafts for real use. They went together pretty well, although my MRS Nomad is noticeably thinner than the squatter Alpacka Carribou and Frontier clone of the MRS Microraft, so I had a bit more overhang. We did adjust mine partway up the estuary, so I think some of that is down to practice.

My bike's on the back so Max can sit in the front without taking a sprocket to the face.

Anxious because everyone else has fallen behind.

Anxiety averted.

Our time on the water was great; we got buzzed by oystercatchers and floated right up close to the shoreline, all rockface, sand and irritable Canada geese. The rising tide is pretty intense and carried us inland without much effort. We just had to make sure to choose the right inlet, as some were dead ends.
