Maybe max wasn’t ready but then it was his idea for Charles to bite him and claim as soon as possible
Poor Max it's such a huge step to mate with someone and he always pictured doing it when he was retired and about to start a family.
Perhaps Charles finds Max in his drivers room bundled up in a nest and whimpering to himself. Max wanted his mating mark to remind him of wonderful happy times and now he's not sure it will. It will remind him of being afraid and not in control. He thought this would be the one thing in his life he had authority over but the choice has been taken away from him.
Max and Charles' relationship is still really new and so Max is terrifying of asking Charles if he will mate with him because if Charles says no then Max knows he will have to go to Toto 🥺🥺
I feel like in the scenario Alpha Charles would be absolutely furious that Max has to put himself through something he isn't ready for yet and whilst he is willing to do it if it saves Max, he desperately wants there to be an alternative.
I guess there is an alternative ending where Charles decides to rally everyone on the grid to put an end to the idea that omegas are "owned.
