Alphabet Art Challenge
I'm starting a personal project to help me keep my New Year’s resolution to regularly make and share art throughout the year, particularly traditional formats, after picking up pencil and pen again for the first time in decades in order to participate in Inktober 2019.
Inspired by that event but also recognizing that sustaining a "one drawing per day" rate is a bit much for me to take on long term, I decided to aim for a minimum of one drawing per week throughout the whole year. Then, casting about for a good way to generate a list of prompts, it occurred to me that there are roughly 52 weeks in the year which is exactly double the number of letters in the English alphabet. So, I thought, why not set up 52 weekly prompts by cycling through the alphabet twice? And thus was the "Alphabet Art Challenge" project was born.
I will be posting my work with the #alphabetartchallenge tag in case you’d like to keep an eye on the results. And if you, too, have an interest in a regular weekly incentive to create more art I cordially invite you to join me!
Prompts
I wanted my prompts to be generated somewhat randomly so I found a random word generator online that allowed specifying the first letter of the words to be returned. This worked admirably with one exception – there really are very few words starting with the letter X that would be useful as a prompt. Instead, I found another site that would return a list of English words starting with any specified letters and requested words starting with “EX” from which I chose two. The results are are shown in this image
