Trash Cat Alphinaud and Pirate Sully prowled the wilds of my kitchen in hopes of snacks. I miss them.
2023 is on the way out and I hope that I can face the challenges of 2024 with as much grace as possible. Goodness knows Pip is throwing enough of them my way.
Nyalisaie and her friend, Coop. Coop is a working barn cat who is inside for the cold, so he's very uncertain about this scary strange human.
Alphinyan is his usual self and is charming everyone and posing.
My cats:
Nyalisaie: Seal Lynx bicolour. The more aptly named of the two: smart, hates being left alone, always looks angry, the most demanding girl. Brings me toys as trophies and has the biggest crush on Sully-pup.
She WILL cuddle Sully at any opportunity. The shocking thing is that Sully allows it, and has since the first time Nyalisaie lost her wariness of Sully.
Alphinyan: Red (cream) bicolour. Actually Nyalisaie's half-sibling, but it doesn't really matter. Slightly less aptly named: Alphinyan is Very Orange and therefore only has the occasional braincell. He is sweet, kind, extremely outgoing, and often tags along to work with me. He is, however, not known for problem-solving, a fact that Nyalisaie exploits during every chase to make him run into the supports of the cat tunnel or chair leg.
He is extremely pretty, however, and his sweetness makes him the more popular with friends because he's very willing to be held and cried on, or have someone yell into his belly fluff. I may see if he's willing to become a therapy/hospital visit cat if he maintains this level of general affection, confidence, and good behaviour.
He desperately wants to befriend Sully. Sully tolerates him, but does not extend cuddling privileges, unlike Nyalisaie. Poor baby.
One reason to love my cats (out of thousands)
Her one curly little whisker:
His ability to look like he has never had a braincell, ever, why would you accuse him of such???
Alphinyan found a bag of catnip. He dragged it down onto his favourite rocking chair, left it for two minutes, and his sister promptly smashed her face into it.
Two very stoned cats to follow.
The Cat-Cosplay Work Begins
As most ridiculous things do, the thought hit me at 10pm: I could ask a friend to help me pattern out Alphinaud and Alisaie cosplays for my Ragdoll cats to go with my Ameliance cosplay.
Said friend, also having an ADHD-shifted sleeping schedule and nothing better to do, enabled me.
This is how we wound up with this at 10:30, testing whether the kittens would tolerate clothing:
Followed by a first attempt, which wound up more cape, less jacket, by 11:30. Alphinyan loved it to the point where he protested when we tried to take it off:
Friend: “It’s really hard to calculate ease for FLOOF.”
Me: “Does floof count as a muffin top or is this a sausage casing situation?”
We discovered a lovely Etsy store (now that the strike’s over) that sells a bajillion patterns for pets, and take 3 was completed by 2AM and fits. Mostly. For a mock-up. Alisaie is easier to fit because she’s less pure-floof, but her MAJESTIC MANE still causes problems.
I have EXTREMELY tolerant cats. Obvs. the mockup is just that; the final product needs interfacing and possibly non-stretch/non-knit material to hold an actual shape, but we have the general gist of it now.
Today, everyone is v. tired from Late-Night Manic Cosplay Adventures:
