One would think Light is the pinnacle of the art world. It’s experimented with the most types of architecture over its long history. It has the largest library in Sornieth, boasting a collection of works touched by the Lightweaver herself. There are numerous galleries and theaters and cafes. But of course, appearances are deceiving. All true artists, of any medium, know their works are appreciated in Shadow.
Shadow is stereotyped as this ugly, sneaky place. Everything is a deception. And perhaps that’s why art is so coveted: each piece has a new meaning to deduce. There’s always something beneath the surface, and only a truly trained Shadow eye can spot it. This extends from the hidden metaphors in murals to unwritten commentary in plays. From a hidden flavor in the newest baking craze to the author’s real intended meaning in their novel.
While Light does have the largest library, Shadow boasts the number one Liberal Arts college on the continent, the largest museum of modern art, and the famed theater, “Alleyway.” It’s suggested that this is but another reason the two continue to have a strained relationship: jealousy.

How do ferals get those trap wounds anyway? are they always around the head when they get caught?
They’re not always on the head, but the ones on the head are more dramatic and heal differently! Tegu head scales are structured pretty differently from their body scales; they’re big and flat and so scarring is more noticeable. There’s also not a lot of tissue between the scales on top of the head and the skull, so healing looks a little weird there compared to a wound elsewhere. They get the trap wounds by flailing, pretty much. Tegus are easily lured into traps but once they realize they’re trapped, they are NOT happy. They’ll try very hard to escape and they usually lead with their noses- they poke at things with their face, trying to find weak points to either rip open or crawl through. The traps that are typically used are made out of metal, so it’s pretty easy for them to hurt themselves. However, the National Wildlife Research Center has been experimenting with PVC traps, as well as different types of bait.
The results are pretty promising, as the field station’s captive tegus didn’t really have a trap preference- they were willing to go into a trap so long as they thought food was in there. The PVC traps are substantially cheaper and less likely to be stolen or vandalized, and they’re less likely to hurt the animal.
Here’s the experiment’s results in a standalone link: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/wildlife_damage/nwrc/publications/16pubs/16-106%20avery.pdf
