MARENGO SASKATCHEWAN
Alsask , Saskatchewan
“Gassed in Well.” Saskatoon Phoenix. September 13, 1917. Page 03. --- T. O. Johanson, 35 years of age, was suffocated in a 75 foot well on the farm of Robert Anderson, near Alsask. Anderson, who has only one hand, went to the rescue, and had his hand crushed in the machinery while bringing Johanson and another man, William Mitchell, up on the windlass. Johannsen had been sent down to pick out the rock and Mitchell became alarmed when no reply came to his shouts. He procured the assistance of Anderson and was lowered down the well. An inquest was deemed unnecessary.
