Skeleton of Napoleon's Horse, Marengo
I was looking through the National Army Museum's website again and stumbled upon this in their collections.
Reputedly ridden by Napoleon at Waterloo, Marengo entered British custody after Napoleon's exile. The horse died in 1831 and its skeleton was preserved, then later passed to the Royal United Services Institute.
I don't know that I've ever seen a horse skeleton before. There's something uncanny about it. I've seen actual human skeletons in varying states of dissection and they weren't as bizarre to me as the back legs of a horse.
I love Marengo (smallpoleon)
