my hot take as a bg3 player is that it kind of sucks actually.
i think my biggest gripe is how despite it being openly queer and having openly queer characters… i feel like it’s not? as good as it could be?
withers (i think) makes a comment if you don’t romance anyone. you also generally do not get to fully know a character unless you engage in the romance routes, and that often means your character will have sex with them. so if you want to know the characters you NEED to engage in romance and sex. except wyll and maybe another character i forgot.
you can choose sex independently from gender independently from pronouns, but i feel like the genitalia options are… lacking? you either get bush or no bush, and then men get cut and uncut. it feels like such a small thing, but if someone wants to imagine themselves in the game, down to genetalia, you gotta hope it matches what you’re handed otherwise fuck you i guess.
also the body sizes. you get short and skinny or tall and muscular. but fuck you if you’re a woman who’s taller than the average man or a man who’s shorter than the average woman. or if you’re just. fat in general.
face shape/noses i feel like could’ve been at least a bit better. a lot of character customization. i feel like it’s very telling that some of the most popular mods in the game are the ones that just… let you create more diverse characters.
also a bit of a personal gripe but the tieflings should’ve gotten more tail options like the dragonborns did
this isn’t even going into the blatant favoritism towards fans and how larian butchered their own writing by bending over backwards for a loud minority. the two examples that come to mind the fastest are Everything With Wyll (ea -> release) and Ascended Astarion’s kiss scene being changed because people were upset that the manipulative asshole that is a dick to your character makes your character uncomfortable because he’s a manipulative as whole who’s a dick.
i have more thoughts about this as a whole i just needed to get it out there because i’ve been getting bg3 stuff on my feed again. don’t flag me alive bg3 fans please
