Waiting patiently for the introduction of more side characters in Malevolent and suddenly Arthur Lester has gained two new boyfriends in two episodes
O and L for the asks :>
We're going to answer L first because... well... I yap. So much. And to save a dash I'll need to put O under a Read More. (tell me Polar rolled a Caliwood song without telling me Polar rolled a Caliwood song)
L: Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn't one of your favorites.
So I tend to find positives in almost every character I engage with since I like the art of storytelling as much as I like the story getting told. Hence a lot of times even if I don't vibe with a character, I can see how well they're written, how they serve the narrative, etc. For this answer, let's take Ted Spankoffski and look at him.
I don't like Ted. I don't care for his storylines, Time Bastard makes me unreasonably sad because of everything Jenny went through because some fuckass dude thought he was entitled to her. Bill (imo) is the far better 'flawed' character in Guy. The on-going joke of Ted dying in crazy ways in so many of the timelines never really landed for me. I'm not talking about my thoughts on Goat Bros because I know it means a lot to people and I do not want to discourage anyone's thoughts or feelings on a character or relationship.
Dude's a dick, a creep, a homewrecker. I do not like him. He is not a good person and has little to no redeeming qualities in my eyes.
He is however, an excellently written character.
The whole point is he's meant to be a dick. And as such he gets unapologetically punished for it. I LOVE watching Nick and Matt talk about him. Especially because there is a portion of the fandom that seems to have a different interpretation of his character than they do. I think my favorite example of this is in a Q&A they were asked if Lex and Ted are supposed to be alike to each other.
And they looked so confused?? And I love it so much. Even Joey looked confused. What they pointed out as reasons they aren't alike exposes a dichotomy so striking that it's crazy to me that it wasn't intentional.
Lex is in the position she is in because she tries to do the right thing and the world works against her.
Ted is in the position he is in because he chooses to do the wrong thing and the world responds in kind.
And that's the best part about his character! He can do the right thing! It's something that crosses his mind! He has the opportunity to do good things! But he chooses to stick to the selfish dick persona that he created to 'justify' the fact that he lost the girl he cared about.
It's actually one of the reasons I like The Hatchetfield Apeman so much. It's my favorite showing of Ted because while he starts out being a dick, using Lucy and tricking her with Hidgens, he actually, for once, makes a very selfless decision to save her. Niow, he doesn't tell her the truth, but he refuses to keep using her the way they intended to. But the fandom as a whole seems to write that episode and that characterization away for several reasons. The biggest is likely because later on that season we get Time Bastard and the showing of his character in a very very different light.
Anyways. Ted. Good character. Still don't like him.
I just felt like having this on my dash again.
WHY ARE THEY SO PRETTY THIS IS INSANE
also Touma stop giving kids the sex eyes thanks
my friend is giving me sims and I can't wait to make Jimmy on it
do you think that show writers are upset about that fact that they’ll never write a scene as good as “guess what we’ve been doing daddy?”
