Ever since I read a fic with Altaïr and Malik calling each other ‘habibi,’ it’s just now my headcannon 😭

They probably teased each other too as novices, calling each other habibi. (Kinda like when you’re so close to your best friend you both start ageing like married couples by sarcastically going ‘yes dear,’ and whatnot.)

It was innocent and feelings did spark and Kadar teased them for it, but it died the day he did. Both men thought their habibi died, or at least a part of them. But it turns out their habibi was just waiting for the other to return, so one night, barely even a whisper when Altaïr or Malik lets it slip and they’re courting, they both tear up and let the moment linger because they thought they lost that part of them long ago, only to be found in love once more.

Altaïr probably shrugs it off and tries to deny it but Malik cups his face and searches his eyes. “Say it again.” He pleads.

And Altaïr does.
