“Hello.”
What? Ophelia's father(s?) don't want her talking to strangers? 18 year olds can think for themselves! Jeez, stop smothering her.
Oh for evilness’ sake.
You should have choked on it. >:[ (And I wasn't but I am now. So ha. )
I am not so easily gotten rid of ~
(All of the disapproval.)
Dude no, but what if I played ophelia's mother.
(( PFFt, I just spat my tea. ))
(i thought for sure you'd choose democracy. why fight for anarchy?)
((We know that if we use democracy mode, the game’s tough areas would be a lot easier to get through.
But that’d also be boring. Why should I care about winning if it’s easy?
Do you remember how fun Prinny was? That was the hardest game I think I’ve ever played, I must have been on that temple area for an entire day, but it was the best PSP game. Winning felt like you accomplished something heretofore borderline impossible (or maybe I’m just not very coordinated u_u;;).
With TPP, I think the main reason we’re playing this old game that most of us have already gotten through when we were younger is because of the anarchy system.
If all I wanted was to beat the game or collect all the items or progress the story, I could do that alone. Been there, done that. And if I was someone who was simply easily frustrated by defeat, why would I even want to participate in such an absurd game in the first place? It’s unreasonable to expect, or demand, that this many people make swift progress; it’s obvious from the start that isn’t going to happen.
People were saying the pokemon tower was impossible without democracy, but I think we did all right. And, it being the first notable event I was both present for and participating in, it felt really great to have finally gotten up there. I mean, we had to overcome a lot to pull it off: we had to communicate, anticipate, decide what we wanted to do, PUSH ALL THE RANDOM BUTTONS!!11, and then there’s the ever-present lag. We also had to start spamming b near the top to thwart the menu opening that kept making digrat dig.
It’s really cool that we managed to coordinate ourselves like that without help. It took a lot of tries, sure, but think of it like practice (or maybe I just don’t bore as easily as most). We learned some things, gained a few levels, shouted messages to remind everyone of what we each thought was the game plan. Teamwork, basically, but like with unfortunate handicaps put on. And everyone’s input having a chance to be the one that decides an action means you actually feel involved, maybe even necessary, even though you know there are tens of thousands of other people (or perhaps, again, that’s just me).
Democracy is like an easy mode; it’ll strong-arm people into a consensus rather than letting us just chaotically work out what that is and then deal with some of the more frustrating hang-ups (if we used it on the tower, for example, I’m guessing we probably wouldn’t have had to worry about that minority spamming start or down and wouldn’t have needed to try and work around that at all).
So yeah, it’s not that I think democracy mode won’t accomplish anything (I think the exact opposite, in fact), it’s that I don’t know why I’d want to waste my time trying to help play this game when I don’t feel I’m individually contributing much to our success and an accomplishment is practically assured.
Like an ineffable deux ex machina in a well-written story, it just feels vaguely dissatisfying/disappointing. You already know how I feel about stories where the characters don’t earn their happy endings. :u
Also, it’s pretty awesome to be able to say we pulled off something borderline “impossible” by ourselves. Democracy mode is like Prinny’s baby mode; you choose it because you’ve concluded it’s impossible for you to finish a level without some help. So that’s how I think of it: a last resort to be used in only the most dire situation (like currently with the safari zone; this isn’t one I think we can just stumble through without royally screwing ourselves over). ))
