I have this thought bugging me for some time now and it won't leave me alone. (maybe it's because of some fanart I saw during the weekend) How would you imagine how things would be for Ingo if his role and Emmet's would have been swapped. (like in ToT that he didn't managed to save him from getting taken)

I can see him taking this pretty hard. He tries to run the Battle Subway alone, much like Emmet is often shown but he struggles a lot. Elesa is there for support but the cruel rumor mill would hit him much harder than Emmet.

I'm so sorry for this random angsty ask but for real I've been stuck with this for almost a week now. Maybe sharing might make it a bit better...

This is actually quite an interesting thought that I’m sure people have speculated on before, but I haven’t really thought on it until you brought it up!

I do tend to emphasize Ingo’s role as a big brother, and moreso as someone who cares about safety of others. He feels responsible for things and events, as well as for others - perhaps to a fault.

So when Emmet is pulled through a rift right beside him, and Ingo grasped for him to yank him out of the way just a second too late, it does hit him hard.

He still runs the battle subway, upholding it for Emmet if when he returns, but he starts to fall more into that intimidating appearance he gives off. The frown is still there, but his eyes have lost the friendly look they always get when he’s enjoying something, as if he’s always focused on other things. Sleep is now done under his office desk instead of in his bed, finding it hard to go home some nights. He becomes less approachable, in part due to reporters who won’t get off his back, and moreso confiding himself to his work.

Pulling away from public socialization, he might reach out more to his family, with Elesa becoming one of the exclusive few non-family members he actually wants to talk to anymore. He confides in her the most actually, and she makes the days easier.

He was responsible, and did not perform the needed safety checks. Work breaks, lunch breaks, smoke breaks, days off - every chance at free time he could would instead be spent making calls to the same places over and over for updates on missing persons, ignoring nosy reporters, or trying to find information on rifts. He may have let his brother disappear, so he would not let it go until he could get him back.
