It is late in the afternoon, and the bank of a small lake is bathed in golden light. Near us stands a black swan with a red beak, looking away, in the water. They have a white band around their neck reading "05" in black letters. Beyond the swan, the lake's side curves in and then out again, reaching a distant patch of reeds. Australian silver gulls, and pukeko, or Australasian swamphens, are gathered along the concrete side, and one is swimming in the water.

Eastern Great Egret?

It's a sunny day, and we are on a bicycle path in a suburban park. Right in front of us, a small bridge crosses a culvert with water in it. A heron-like bird stands in the water; it is white with a yellow bill. It appears to be an Eastern Great Egret, but is much smaller than birds of that species usually are. It may be a juvenile.

The Laverton Train

We are standing right next to a single railway track on our left, which runs parallel to two narrow suburban streets. The train is a Melbourne suburban train manufactured by Siemens, and the destination sign tells us it is headed to Laverton. There is a long column of trees alongside the track on our right, and past a fence we can see the road to the left of the track. The day is becoming overcast.

Next to a sandy beach, which we can just glimpse in a corner of this photo, runs a low stone wall, perhaps two feet high. On the top of the wall sits a small yellow flower. Its petals are bright yellow, and they curve downwards to form a cup above the stem. On each petal, about near where the cup would start to become over-full, is a black dot. It is not entirely clear if the flower is natural or artificial.

It is a beautiful, gorgeous sunny day. We are standing on a seaside pier, looking back towards the beach over the greeny-blue water. A small extension to the pier juts out, and people stand around taking photos of each other. To our left the only barrier between us and the water is a six-inch high wooden ledge. A seagull is flying directly over the ledge, one wing over the water and one over the wooden surface of the pier.

We can looking right at the head and upper torso of a white man sitting on a mobility scooter; we can just see the headrest of the scooter behind his head. He wears a light, slightly floppy white had with a blue band, a lilac polo shirt, and a short purple neckerchief knotted at his throat. He has on a black facemask, to protect him from airborne germs. On the lower face and neck not covered by the mask, we can see whiskers that have not been shaved for a few days.

Behind him is the wall of the Altona Theatre, and on a semicircular asphalt path there is a rainbow painted to take up the whole path. The rainbow is made up of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet arcs.
