URBAN CLUSTER (Cluster Urbano) San José, Costa Rica. 2015 Fabián Alvarado Aguilar The idea of designing an urban cluster stems from the need for rich spaces for culture and healthy dissemination of arts in zones of young and student populations of the capital. The challenge of configuring a tower-like space that would house different commercial and residential areas was an opportunity to take the same local need for public spaces in the urban landscape, the same morphology and topography of the site, and the effervescent concepts that in my heart began at the moment to emerge from my exposure to a deeper study of art and psychology. For this reason, the project was born from the demolition of contemporary processes for the conceptualization of an architectural project, returning to draft drawing of sketches, collages and paintings, to the random explorations of drift, and the honest manifestation of the unconscious for the creative processes that eventually gave shape to the finished project, once its abstraction was channeled towards a rational architectural object. I dreamed of a building with two towers that did not interfere with the urban passages like a frightening monolith, but arose from the surroundings and the limits of its own lot, contributing rivers and waterfalls to its inhabitants and passers-by, since the building was of public access in its first levels and squares. The two towers communicated with each other by means of floating plazas, from which gardens and water fountains hung at different levels. The building was alive and housed like a large tree, many cultures and rich life experiences. It was a mountain-building in a city placed in a valley, it was an urban cluster. Concepts: The Unconscious "Because there are innumerable things beyond the range of human understanding, we constantly use symbolic terms to represent concepts that we can not define or fully comprehend. " Man And his Symbols (Carl G. Jung) Surrealist montage "Romantic irony should not be understood, as is customary, as an index of a subjective lack of limits, but must be appreciated as an objective moment of the work; as a moment which represents the paradoxical attempt to build yet through a demolition. And that same thing, reaches the moment objectively through constructive demolition, that was what the surrealists pretended through montage. Following the romantics, they tried to demolish the barriers that cold reason imposes between things, as well as between the world of things and the inner world " Arte, Arquitectura, Y Montaje (Manuel de Prada) Landscape Theory The Landscape is a cultural projection from a material, spiritual, ideological and symbolic dimension. “Syncretic thinking or syncretism makes the world of primitives and children a fixed world but in constant and complete mobility; a world in which neither analysis nor rational synthesis intervenes and where things are related by analogies and oppositions. It is important to learn to distinguish one from the multiple and to stir that several impressions can build a unit. This is a type of learning that is carried out imitating, because only imitation allows to reuse in a mint scheme what was previously separated (in different impressions) and separate what was previously united; only from the unit does the difference make sense, and vice versa, both the difference between the objects as between the worlds of the subject and the object”.
