I was confused about this chapter title when I read it, but oh dear, you're probably right.
The title makes some sense to me - a metaphorical dawning of light, even if Marius isn’t aware of it, as he seriously notices Cosette for the first time as a person in her own right. Add in the strong light-love connection in the text and it sort of works.
But more importantly: puns.

The Valentine's Day card I just bought for special gentleman friend has a picture of two peanuts (with faces drawn on them) snuggling on the front. Inside it says "Can't help being nuts about a guy like you!" Because I am bad at expressing sincere feelings unless there are puns involved.
