check out my latest piece now live on @vogueitalia - i sat down and chatted with new york based-emerging talent @gracelingo who recently won @asvof fashion film grand prize. born in Singapore and now lives in New York, Grace has always drawn to surrealism. My latest piece on handbag design duo @sabrymarouf is now live on @vogueitalia 👀 Their latest collection titled “ORIGINS” was inspired by the message from their ancient Egyptian ancestors of using “knowledge, power, and enlightenment” to guide civilization towards “achieving a positive change”. For Sabry Marouf, this positive change is working towards a “global sustainable development” and shifting the “paradigm to Earth first”. Through studying the methodology of woodworking by the ancient Egyptians, and experimenting ways to translate them into functional handbags, the result was a marriage between ancient craftsmanship and modern technology that successfully paid homage to nature. The collection consists of six made-to-order clutch styles all made with wood and elegantly handcrafted by artisans at a small family-run workshop in Florence, Italy. Sabry Marouf said they were extremely lucky since the workshop they partnered with was one of the few that were still operating during the pandemic. The types of natural woods that are used for the handbags are a combination of Ash and Walnut; sourced responsibly from sustainable forests in Italy. To further elevate the luxury feel, the clutches are meticulously gilded using 22 karat gold. In addition, a natural non-toxic coating is applied to the exterior of the handbag to provide the water resistant protection.
