Something I read a bit ago on the Oitnb wiki page still bothers me and I wanted to get your take on it, since it appears you are go-to question gal, lol. Under Alex's info page in the s3 summary it states that "...Alex is no longer able to hurt Piper during sex, which makes Piper less interested in being intimate with her." I disagree with that as the reason why they start to drift away. No support for that idea, for one thing. Your take?
I agree with the Wiki statement BUT I had no clue re: s3 Piper’s behaviour until I read some excellent posts by a few fans here on tumblr, specifically:
this one by @submalevolent-gracethis one by @alxvseand my reblog of posts by @thefundamental and @baroquemirrors
To anyone who is still scratching their heads about s3 Piper, I cannot recommend those 3 posts highly enough--they offer excellent insight into her actions.
Ok, so to answer your specific ‘ask’ about the Vauseman hate-sex in s3, I’ll quote two bits from the last link above:"Alex stops wanting to hurt her but piper still desperately believes she deserves to be hurt."(@thefundamental) and "Piper’s fine with it up until that point. It feels good to have intimacy that hurts in a justified way. It feels deserved. But then when Alex really truly forgives her, just completely surrenders and offers Piper unconditional love and support, Piper doesn’t actually want it. It makes her feel worse because she doesn’t deserve it.“ (@baroquemirrors). The whole post is excellent and I’m glad I reblogged it because the original posts are gone :/
Thanks for the ‘ask’!

At first it doesn’t feel real at all that she’s gone. Erin expects her to just be there. Dancing and inventing and teasing and flirting. Blowing things up accidentally. Blowing things up on purpose. Bustling around the lab and making a racket and irritating her in the best way possible.
It’s the silence that gets to her. It makes her head pound.
A love letter to the fic that undoubtedly changed me.
I'm LIVING for your gorgeous gifs, thanks for being so prolific with them! If you're still taking request, could you possibly do the end of their banter in the beginning of 6x06, outside the medical exam room? Basically the smile Alex gives Piper after she says "And your Dr. Mouth smilin'" is pure adoration and I can't stop thinking about it. Thanks so much!
Aaahh! Thank you so much for this message. <333 I’m glad to be making them!
Here you go.
lmfao thank you. & i still love & respect you even though you refuse to give this iconic hairstyle the same courtesy.
Ngl but I find it hard to care about orange since Alanabloom stopped writing for the fandom and said on her tumblr that she doesnt care anymore. Lots of good writers and people who provided analysis on the show don’t care any more 😭😭😭😭😭
I re-read her reply and she didn’t say that’s why she stopped writing. She said her decision to stop writing fic in general (not just Vauseman fanfics) was “...not at all a commentary on my feelings toward the characters, or writing the characters, or even the story itself in a general sense...“.
As for other writers/fans, I can’t control if they decide to stop writing fanfic or analysis about my OTP, I can’t control when they decide to start a new Vauseman fanfic or even update existing ones, I can’t control if they reblog any stuff relating to Orange on their tumblrs, and I certainly can’t control what they think about OITNB.
I can only control what /I/ reblog on my tumblr...and I can tell you this---my love for ‘Orange is the New Black’ has only grown with each passing season.
Thanks for the ‘ask’.
First off i just wanted to say i love your account and i love reading your vauseman commentary, its all very spot on and accurate:) So i have 2 questions 1 Do you think vauseman were ever toxic at any point? (e.g: s3 vauseman hate sex and not talking about their problems properly) and 2. What is your favourite season for vauseman overall mine would probably be 1 or 5
Hey, thanks so much :) Your question about Vauseman and toxicity is a good one because it’s been brought up a zillion times--both by people who hate Alex/Piper/Vauseman, and also by their fans who were left scratching their heads after season 3.
In my opinion, yes, the hate-fucking in season 3 was definitely a sign of relationship toxicity (who could deny that?). That whole season was awful for the two of them--both as a couple and as individuals--- and if both people are *that* unhappy, it's pretty difficult to have a healthy, thriving relationship. Their pre-Litch relationship also had very serious problems, mostly stemming from Alex’s job in the illegal drug trade and her inability to see how much it was negatively affecting her relationship with Piper. That was basically what killed their relationship and led to the breakup in Paris. As an aside....although it was obvious that Piper still loved Alex when she left her, the breakup seemed a bit sudden to me (as shown on-screen) given that we didn't see a lot of Unhappy Piper. It would have pained me to see more of her being miserable, but it would have made her leaving more understandable (esp. since she left /immediately/ after hearing of Diane's death :( In their defense, though (and poor communication issues aside), “heightened circumstances” had a lot to do with those relationship problems pre-Litch and in s3, as the brilliant @alxvse so eloquently explained here. I highly recommend reading her post because I think it answers your question better than I ever could. Favourite season? Season 1. It had the perfect mix of comedy and drama, lots of memorable, well-written Vauseman/Alex/Piper scenes, and it didn’t focus too much on tertiary characters/COs (like later seasons did). Season 2 was very good but I missed Alex terribly :/ I'm looking forward to seeing season 7 and seeing how it stacks up to s1-6 :) Thanks for your 'ask'!
alxvse replied to your post: One of my favorite critics liked the new season so...
Nussbaum?
Yes.
