THE SECOND FALCON QUEEN.

As queen, Alya Arryn leaned heavily on the image of her maiden house, a physical symbol of her own lines meteoric rise to power. She’d often dress in Arryn blues, and donned a crown of silver, even suiting herself a new set of personal arms— the falcon-and-moon on sky blue, with the addition of a silver diadem on the head of the falcon. She had not been the first Arryn queen, though she strived to make herself the most beloved one.

Summary:

Alya is a girl who is obsessed with superhero comics, fighting for fairness, and standing up to bullies, which has gotten her into trouble in the past. However, this is a fresh start. She is starting her first day at a new school with a newfound power she is eager to test out... she hopes to make a good first impression.

DAY THREE — RELATIONSHIPS.

AN OFFER FROM A PRINCE.

“He is a sturdy dragon, and large for his age.” He took his hand in hers, guiding it towards the green scaled beast. Her palm grazed the glimmering scales, and Vermax let out a soft trill, leaning into her cold palm. It had brought out an unfamiliar thrill in him to know that she had found this so… Impressive. Him, so impressive. He was reluctant in brushing his hand away, though moved to brush over his dragons scales, near wincing at the loss of contact. He could not stop his gaze from looking upon her amazement, however.

“He is just large enough to saddle two, actually.” A flush appeared on his face as the words left his lips. Jace watched as her head whipped to look at him, expression contorting into one of confusion, slight fear, and finally, excitement.

“You do not suggest..?” Her voice trailed off, a glimmer in her eyes as her hand faltered. He’d never seen her so excited— this had been the same girl who sullenly sulked in a dark corner, now happier than even the most joyous of maidens. Maybe that is why he could not quell his fluttering heart, a small drawl coming from his breath.

“You… told me that you had wished to fly away from here, to get away from court. And your mother.” The boy had been sheepish, hands clasping behind his back as to ground himself in reality. “I so happen to have a dragon, if you would like.”

Perhaps this was the moment he finally understood. Now he knew; whatever this was between them, it had become more than just two young people finding solace in their similarities. No, it had become deeper.

DAY TWO — PARALLELS.

MOTHER AND DAUGHTER.

The relationship of Evelynne Florent and her daughter, Alya Arryn is one considered most complicated. Two souls that could not have been less alike if they had tried.

Evelynne had led in sternness. Her brow never seemed to stop from furrowing, nor did her scowl ever seem to leave her face. Even so, she was considered extremely beautiful, with lovely golden curls and honeyed brown eyes. Reach lords were ashamed to find out that she had been quickly wed to a cousin of hers— the timid, book-bound cousin borne from the union of her disgraced aunt and the Arryn tourney knight she’d fell madly in love with. None could understand the union, not even Evelynne herself. It had been said to be the start of her scowl. There was scarcely a moment where she had felt true happiness, only her son could make her so much as smile. Not even her own daughter could soften the woman’s heart. In fact, their difference seemed to only harden it.

Her daughter Alya led in optimistic melancholy. Once a bubbly girl, she’d been forced into a box of repentance and loneliness by her mother for a crime she did not commit— the death of her second brother. She seemed to be blamed for death often, her mother ceaselessly reminding her of how she’d almost killed her in the childbed. Perhaps that is where the ire started.

The fact of the matter was that Evelynne hated that she could she nothing of herself in her daughter. She had her father’s dour pale skin, his chestnut hair, his blue eyes. Nothing could be seen to resemble her. Not the shape of her nose, nor the wideness of her eyes. She was pretty enough, but not as pretty as she had been in her own youth. Her daughter’s meekness contrasted her strong will, her optimism clashed with her pessimism.

Still, Alya hoped. Still, she dreamed of a better future. That she’d not wed a man who would bring her misery like her mother, but a man of her choosing, who would dote on her dearly as if she were a precious pearl. And that, perhaps, was the biggest tragedy for her mother.
