even more so than their leaf-footed bug cousins, alydids are often a collection of strange shapes that form a lanky disjointed contraption when put together. this Camptopus lateralis is perching on a clover, but you can picture it as an explosion due to poor quality parts and craftsmanship

A lovely, leggy friend! Very fancy antennae. This fellow is a lupine bug, which is a type of broad-headed bug :)

Found this lupine bug (Megalotomus quinquespinosus) on a Baptisia plant in my yard earlier this week. Always a bit odd to have fresh BotD entries in November...

almost every single photo of Camptopus lateralis i have is overexposed like it was printed out and dragged through chernobyl in an ox cart, not because they're especially fond of sunlight but because they're especially fond of open scrubland, the nemesis of decent lighting. i got pretty lucky with this one who was okay with my gargantuan shadow covering it
