FROM INTERNAL DOUBTS TO WORLD CUP GLORY FOR MOLINEUX
Sophie Molineux had giant shoes to fill when she was named Alyssa Healy’s successor as Australia captain and readily admits there were moments when she was not sure she would be able to make the step up. Read More...
New Zealand cricket has its proof now. Alyssa Healy still shows the White Ferns what repeatable pressure really demands next in cricket.
Alyssa Healy did not play for New Zealand, but her shadow still tells the White Ferns something uncomfortable.
Elite cricket does not wait.
One loose over becomes 20 runs. One quiet start becomes scoreboard panic. One missed length becomes a boundary that changes the whole field. That was Healy at her best. Not just runs, but tempo. Not just power, but pressure.
New Zealand already proved they can rise. The 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup title gave them belief, bite and a night nobody can take away.
Now comes the harder part.
Can they make that edge normal?
Amelia Kerr gives them the foundation. Sophie Devine gives them force. Suzie Bates gives them calm. The next generation has to turn those pieces into something repeatable.
Alyssa Healy Knows One Drop Can Change a Whole Era
Alyssa Healy can prevent fielding lapses by handing Australia a fielding culture strong enough to outlive her final as captain in transition
Australia used to make fielding look automatic.
That is why the dropped chances hit harder.
Alyssa Healy’s mistake against Jemimah Rodrigues was not just one ball touching grass. It became a warning. India chased 339. Rodrigues stayed alive on 82, finished unbeaten, and Australia suddenly had to answer a question champions hate.
What happens when the aura stops catching the ball for you?
That is where Healy’s final chapter matters. Not only runs. Not only captaincy. Standards.
The next Australia cannot live on old fear. The ring has to bite again. Cover has to close the single. Midwicket has to make batters hesitate. After a drop, someone has to sprint in, speak clearly, and make the next ball feel alive.
That is how great teams survive transition.
Healy cannot catch every ball forever.
But she can still leave Australia with the habits that made opponents feel trapped.

Leadership and Legacy Beyond Numbers 👏🇦🇺
Healy took over the captaincy in late 2023 following Meg Lanning’s retirement, guiding the team with confidence and honesty. She has often spoken about knowing when the moment feels right, saying her passion remains but the intense competitive drive has softened. That self-awareness has earned admiration across the cricket world. 🌈💬

Women's World Cup: Australia Without Captain Alyssa Healy Against England
Australia will be without captain Alyssa Healy for their crucial top-of-the-table Women's World Cup clash against England on Wednesday in Indore. Cricket Australia confirmed that Healy sustained a minor calf injury while training on Saturday, October 19.
While Healy will miss the England match, her participation in upcoming fixtures, including the October 26 clash against South Africa, will be reassessed ahead of the semi-final scheduled for October 29. Healy has been in sensational form, scoring 142 against India and an unbeaten 113 against Bangladesh earlier in the tournament, making her absence a significant blow to Australia’s batting line-up.
With Healy sidelined, Tahlia McGrath will lead the team, while Beth Mooney takes over as wicketkeeper. 22-year-old Georgia Voll is expected to open the innings. Voll impressed earlier this year with an 81 off 68 balls against India, despite having only five ODIs under her belt.
Healy has been Australia’s driving force, anchoring the batting order and currently leading the tournament with 294 runs in four matches. She played a key role in Australia’s record chase of 331 against India and smashed 113 off just 77 balls in the 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh.
Injuries have been a recurring challenge for Healy, who missed significant portions of the 2024 T20 World Cup and was in and out of the national squad before this tournament. Australia will be hoping she recovers quickly to strengthen their campaign as they push toward the knockout stages.
