Idk why people get so offended when people call Rika a bitch. Like bitch is literally THE TAMEST thing you could call Rika. What do you want me to call her instead?? A stuck-up-egotistical-abusive-rapist-manipulative-disgusting-vile-human-flesh-stain-who-preys-on-teenage-boys-and-abused-kids-for-literally-no-fucking-reason-other-than-to-be-a-garbage-savage-animal???? nah man, I’d rather make it short and sweet. like... I’m sorry but the sooner you accept that your fave is an unlikable piece of shit and that no one is obligated to show any kind of empathy or a respect for a character that’s explicitly and purposely written to be as unlikable as possible, the easier everyone’s lives are gonna be
like going off of that... whether people like or dislike a character isn’t just about whether the character is a Nice Person or not, it’s all about the way they’re written and portrayed. You can absolutely write characters who do horrible, vile, and terrible things and still have many many people like them (side eyes Junko fucking Enoshima). Likewise, you can write characters who’s crimes may not warrant the death sentence but you bet your ass you wished it was. there’s a good reason why in persona 5 a sexually and physically abusive teacher gets more hate than a mafia boss who extorts high school girls into prostitution even though at face value its obvious who’s crimes are more severe.
Rika isn’t written to be a good person, but beyond that she isn’t written to be liked. for christ sake even her va jokes about how if she saw Rika in her dreams, she’d scream. Rika isn’t a character whos supposed to be met with sunny smiles and welcoming arms. She’s purposely written to be foreboding, unlikable, and to be met with fear, anxiety, rage, disdain, or just frustration. this isn’t a measure of how “”good”” of a character Rika is, this is just simply a writing direction Cheritz chose to pursue with her. Like I’m not saying you can’t like dislikable characters, but its stupid to get mad when people dislike your fave who’s purposely written to be a detestable piece of shit. if the fact that people hate Rika gets your panties in a twist so much, instead of blaming people who hate a character whos written to be hated, blame Cheritz for writing her the way they did.
