My hyperfixation on Star Lord has shifted to Adam Warlock (just in time for the new costume). Not surprising, but the problem is there's just so little Adam Warlock content to consume. I feel like he's even less popular than Star Lord, who isn't that popular either.

When I was fixated on Star Lord, there was a game to play, movies to watch, comics to read, and I easily made a playlist for him.

Adam Warlock? I've got Marvel Rivals, comics, and a mobile game that I don't like very much. I can only play Marvel Rivals for so long before my hands hurt and I'm getting a little tired of reading so many comics. I can't even make a playlist for him because what the hell would Space Jesus listen to?

A Brief Look at Adam Warlock

I will bring peace to this universe, no matter the cost.

First Appearance: Fantastic Four #66 (1967)

Creator(s): Originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, further developed by Roy Thomas and Jim Starlin

Adam’s first appearance in the comics comes surprisingly early in the timeline of the Marvel Universe and has had quite the transformation over the course of his existence, as have many other characters within Marvel Comics. Despite being around for nearly six decades, Adam Warlock’s only recently became a name that’s left the comic sphere thanks to his appearance in both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Marvel Rivals, though he has been a major player in several events in the comics, most notably the infinity saga. 

Within the comics, he’s a character who tends to go through long periods of absence. He’ll be around and do a lot and then just… kinda disappear for a little bit? He’ll be here for a decade, leave for another decade and then come back again in the next for an event. 

Despite being introduced in 1967, he had a solo run in the 70s under Jim Starlin.

A brief look at his origins in comics: 

Being originally introduced to us as ‘Him’, Adam Warlock was created by a group of scientists called the Enclave. Their goal was to create the ‘perfect man’, the next step in humankind’s evolution. Upon his creation, Adam immediately sensed the evil within his creators and escaped, injuring the scientists and destroying the complex.

The next time we see Him/Adam is in Thor #163 when he encounters Thor and attempts to kidnap and ‘mate’ with Lady Sif (yikes) and Thor then nearly beats him to death. This beating injures Adam/Him so badly, he ends up putting himself into a regenerative cocoon and is later reborn. 

Upon his rebirth, Him/Adam found himself in the care of the High Evolutionary, a scientist who likes to ‘evolve’ things/creatures/people, who then named him ‘Warlock’. The High Evolutionary becomes a sort of mentor figure to Adam, giving him purpose and guidance and the Soul Gem (sound familiar?) and sent Adam to a place called Counter-Earth. 

Now, to briefly explain Counter-Earth, it is a near exact replica of earth which was created by the High Evolutionary and put on the opposite side of the sun to keep it hidden. It was made to be a ‘purer’ version of Earth and it was almost exactly the same as the main earth except… well, it had no superheroes. Until the High Evolutionary sent Adam Warlock to it.

See, another one of the High Evolutionary’s creations (Man-Beast) had made it to Counter-Earth and began to corrupt it. The High Evolutionary sent Adam there with the soul gem to cleanse it and Adam quickly became the champion and hero of Counter-Earth though, like many of the heroes in the normal Marvel Universe, he had those who saw him as nothing more than a terrorist as well. He had his followers as well and many people viewed him as some sort of God-like figure due to his ability to regenerate. 

After some more hijinks on Counter-Earth and a little help from the Hulk in defeating the Man-Beast, Adam Warlock left, telling his followers that others needed his assistance and he left Counter-Earth to go and explore the cosmos for himself.
