Jess's biggest fault is his insecurities and trust issues. That combined with the fact that he pushed himself too hard and spread himself too thin by trying to work two jobs while he was in school with a girlfriend. I do think, though, that his insecurities regarding the Dean and Rory situation were justified because again Rory is a cheater. Jess knows that.

It's his trust issues and unwillingness to be emotionally vulnerable with anyone that killed his relationship with Rory. These issues are somewhat understandable given everything he has been through in his life, but definitely aren't a justification for his behavior.

I have to say, though, that I feel like the only reason why these issues really exist is because of bad writing. The writers couldn't figure out how to spark drama between Jess and Rory to keep the show interesting without transforming Jess into a machismo asshole rather than keeping him as the gifted kid loner who constantly had a book in his hand.

That's my opinion because, to me, Jess Mariano seems like a completely different character in season three than he was in season two. Where he had no interest in getting a job, talked to Rory every night on the phone, and was essentially a harmless prankster who cut school to read and listen to music instead.

He was the gender-swapped Rory Gilmore with an edge.

Today’s Choice: Courage the Cowardly Dog

I had a very long day, so not horror movie tonight. However! I did watch the entirety of the “return the slab” episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog. It was a great nostalgia trip, and I’m considering finding a way to binge it at some point.
