Amadeus is based not even on the Pushkin's play, but on the book The Wisdom of Pushkin (1919) by the Jewish writer Mikhail Gershenson. All this blah blah about Salieri's relationship with god is from Gershenson's chapter about 'Mozart and Salieri', word by word. Amadeus isn't even about Catholicism - it's about Judaism in Gershenson's head projected on Pushkin's Salieri.

Partner made me watch Amadeus last night, because it's one of their favorite films, and I was so compelled and sucked in by. Not a moment did I feel distracted. I was baffled. Like my ADHD shut off for 3 hours. Anyway, I can't stop thinking about it. Have a doodle from immediately after watching.

I can't believe I came across this post on reddit bc 1) it's hilarious 2) I had the exact same experience of having a crush on mozart when I was little... like if I vividly remember anything from elementary school it's my music teacher pointing to Austria on the map and telling us about mozart. And I loved his portrait and would always wanna look at it.

I would say 6 year old me would've loved amadeus but that's not true. She was in love with the man in that painting not cutie Tom hulce 😭😭
