Dusting Process & Amalgamations
The only way to successfully defeat a monster is to slice at the chest of the monster (or slice the soul charm in necklace form) purposefully and effectively- or until the monster's HP is reduced to 0. Upon destruction, the monster will begin to turn to dust.
In early times of Lonertale, monster souls have obtained traits due to being exposed to human determination. Although the amount of monster DT is nowhere near matching the potential of human DT, the trait allots for a genetic mutation that allows a miniscule chance for a few monsters to come back after death. After a group of monsters turn to dust, they combine into a single being; an amalgamation.
After death, the dusty remains of each monster fly in search of a safe place, determined to form a new life. Once the dust combines, there are two different outcomes:
Type-A Amalgamate
Monsters that form a type-A amalgamate means that not every monster was determined to "live again". If one or more monster denies the second chance, their remains clump together and form a physical body that appears to be in a gooey-like state; much like the amalgamates that exist in UT. Their temporary soul combines with no trait value, and their sense of reality is distorted beyond repair. These amalgamates live undeniably short lives (1-5 days) in pain and despair before finally melting away into nothingness. Type-A remains to be the most common outcome due to many departing souls already welcoming death.
Type-B Amalgamate
When all parties "refuse to die", the dust combines into one new soul: the determination trait soul. This is the peak identification for type-B amalgamates. Upon fusion, they start life anew as an infant as if nothing had ever happened. Monsters that are a product of this dust fusion inherit select traits and features from the monsters’ dust that helped produce its new form. However, such a phenomenon doesn’t happen without a price: even though a familiar-looking monster is reborn, they are robbed of those monsters’ memories as they exist with a new consciousness haunted by the past of the monsters that make up the type-B amalgamate. Memory of the monsters' lives remain unclear to the amalgamate, but, with help of another, it's not impossible to recollect what happened to the monsters that were alive before them.
A Swift Flight
Ardri had left the others some days before, knowing that his path now lay separate from theirs as they journeyed to sanctuary and safety. But trouble had been following swift behind and it seemed to have chosen to follow him instead of the refugees. Monstrous creatures who burned with the dark fire leapt from tree to tree, gouging great wounds in bark and branch as they traveled. Something that once might have been a dark haired Wichtel was now twisted and mutated by the dark fire that burned away at her. Eyes flashing with rage she screeched as she reached out to snatch at him, only to just miss his robes as he fled her. Others came: an elf whose body was charred away and whose teeth had become like a thousand needles, a hobgoblin who had become little more than an animal that crawled swiftly and broke whatever or whomever it came across, a pixie that was a ball of whirling dark fire that scorched at its surroundings, dryads whose very trees screamed in agony as they uprooted themselves to give chase. And there were worse things there, things that cannot entirely be described. Monsters who were almost entirely mouth, eating away at everything they met until there was nothing left. Horrible amalgamations of Faeries who were crushed together into one being and sought out more to add to their suffering. Many took animal shapes, but even those were ruined by the influence of the dark fire, shaping them in frightening or grotesque ways as it ate away at their very being. As he fled, Ardri cast away his robes, running naked through the trees. If he was slowed even for a moment they would catch him and his quest would end with his own corruption. Somewhere the leader was watching, that man wreathed in Dark Fire who had begun all of this. He did not show himself and Ardri could not take the time to look for him. The path ahead suddenly wrenched its way from the earth right before the boy. A huge creature with a mass of land laid firmly upon its back stood up. Its neck was long and its face wrinkled as it pushed upwards with its six limbs with hands of three fingers and thumb. Out stretched its tail as it turned, land and all, to look at Ardri. “Run, little one. I will hold them off for a time. I am not yet old enough to lose my wits to the dark fire and its lies.” Knowing there was nothing he could do, Ardri sped beneath the creature and to the other side where the path continued towards a pair of trees that bent and entwined together to form an arch. A gateway to somewhere else...to another world. As he passed through he called upon the trees themselves to break the way, so that he could not be followed. With a snap he was on the other side and it was very cold.
heehoo I drew some characters from a story of mine. They’re a part of the Pookie and Co. TV show that’s from a comic--er, whatever you’d call it if I’m having people voice act in it--I’m doing that I’m just currently calling the Amalgamations (technically it’s Amalgamation AU but that sounds cooler)
Stephan the Stag and Katherine the Kitsune!

Dreams of the Imitators
They were once just shells hollow and empty without names or personalities just like everyone else who lived with their eyes closed they slept and dreamed endlessly, that was the fate that we were destined for in this world of smoke and mirrors void happiness and love everyday there was silence yet everyone operated like cold machines. One day there was a glitch corruption had manifested in the programming of two 'people' they awoke to the truth of their world a place where the sun shined brighter than ever so the populace lived confined and in underground areas still here among the shadows it was safe, that is if you were unlucky to awaken then your eyes could finally grasp and comprehend the beings that formed from the darkness then the last place you wanted to be was underground so these two fled to the world outside armed with standard issue military grade shields, they had stole from the facility they worked at but it wasn't like anyone would notice since they all were oblivious to each other once outside the sunlight blinded them for several minutes after adjusting they kept moving farther away from where they came, yet they had not expected the sun's rays to be this strong so they entered a ruined house nearby the man looked around and saw a dirty mirror he swiped off the dirt and he froze in place seeing himself his arms tensed up or should I say the machinery in his arms stopped their assigned task momentarily. What stared back at him was not a person but a machine his mind recoiled at the thought weird and sharp mechanical noises came from inside his chest he collapsed to the ground entering a brief sleep mode, when he woke he saw her next to him with a 'worried' expression the person he had seen all along also faded into the machine she was then a unique sensation rose up from the cold metal he stood back up and punched the mirror so as to not reveal the truth to her.. yet. So maybe they were shells of something that had existed long ago an amalgamation of all the instances they used to be now mashed together into in-cohesive beings merely imitations of the original or, was this their true selves all along?
