Alberta is the only Canadian province without a provincial ministry, women's directorate or advisory council on the status of women. The gender pay gap in Alberta is the largest in the country, with women working full-time, full-year making 66 percent of what men earn. Two-thirds of minimum wage earners and 70 percent of the part-time workforce in Alberta are women. Since 2003, Alberta allocates the lowest number of per capita dollars for child care, with only 17 percent of children under six in Alberta having access to regular child-care spaces (Phillips, 2010).
