Amara Kitchen, 841 Mariposa St, Altadena, CA 91001, Score: 37/50
Amara Kitchen started in Highland Park. The owner had a gluten-intolerance and so she was inspired to create a gluten-free restaurant with housemade baked goods and the type of food she enjoyed eating – healthy with lots of organic produce, eggs, sustainable meat, paleo friendly, etc. Order at the counter and get a number. They’ll bring your food. Get your own water and utensils. Try the housemade hot sauce.
Score: 37/50
Food: 5/5 – It’s good and healthy; avocado toast, pancakes, grain bowls, breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches, salads, etc. Breakfast and lunch are served all day. They try to use organic ingredients as much as possible. The avocado toast had a huge mound of mashed avocado and a big salad on the side.
Coffee: 5/5 – They offer FREE REFILLS of the house drip coffee. Canyon Coffee is served (local roaster) and it’s good. They also have interesting flavored lattes and housemade almond cashew milk.
Wi-fi: 5/5 – Free, secure, stable. Ask for the password.
Ambiance: 4/5 – Homey, earthy hipster with hanging dried flower bouquets, lots of plants, mostly white color scheme.
