last year, the sky spoke to me in all sorts of languages and i stopped to listen and observe and was encouraged to repeat what i heard but i think i got selfish and hid all of her secrets and poems. i hid them. i told them to myself and mixed them into my own vocabulary until i couldn’t rid them from my mouth until they became more than me until i could speak them audibly convincingly it’s hard to breathe out words you dont believe in so i took them away and became them. and now, at the end of it all i spread myself out for all to read, and share myself as openly as the sunset does to the world as she did to me, as she taught me - so easily, so vulnerably.
- upon learning to be vulnerable.

the reality is,
We must decide for ourselves when we are Women.
When we are Woman.
When we are allowed to decide what it is we are to call it
and to who
and in which dialect
and we must trust our Mothers not to laugh us out of the room
When we speak with voices we have not meant to sound like theirs
with our suggestions and Womanly Womanly eyes and the slanted corners
where the hurt lives
and the joy
and the delicate laughter
and the realer, rougher one
and the silence.
We must agree.
upon which date we must dress ourselves in our Woman.
take it out of the wooden wardrobe,
dust it with unshaking hands
hang up our Girlhood
remember to pull the sleeves out, not to make a fool of our intentions.
We must not hurry down into it,
We must walk and smile and greet
as though invited
into ourselves
just as We had talked about
just as We had dreamed about.
