20 Miles and 6000 Feet (Death Valley National Park) by Mark Stevens

While walking along the Dante's View Trail with a view looking to the northwest across Badwater Basin to snowcapped ridges and peaks of the Panamint Range on the other side of the valley. Compose the same message, I pull back on the focal length and then angle my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward to bring out more of a sweeping view down the mountainside and then across the valley. I figured that would bring the mountains higher into the image and create more of a sense of grandeur with them. There would be a little bit of blue skies above, but I felt they really add much to the image as a negative space. The focus with the image would be on the patterns and colors of the salt basin, as well as the more distant mountains. As for the distances, that was just a simple Google measuring tool from Dantes View to Telescope Peak. The elevation was also from Dantes View but down to Badwater Basin and it being below sea level.
