This location is in Death Valley National Park. The setting is the mountain desert landscape present along the basin area around Badwater.

Exploring the Trails of the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Mobius Arch Loop Trail with a view looking to the northeast across a desert landscape and then hillside of eroded rock formations. This is in the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area. The backdrop of mountains is part of the Inyo Mountains on the eastern side of Owens Valley. My thinking in composing this image was to take advantage of the dirt road as a leading line into the image and possible destination with the more distant mountains.

Focused from Near to Far (Theodore Roosevelt National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: For this image, I found a point nearby to focus while closing down the aperture on my Nikon SLR camera to capture this view at a stop named Slump Block Pullout. Composing this image was then just a matter of getting down (after walking a few steps back) near some taller grasses. I let the formations then fill the remaining portion of the image with a little bit of blue skies above. My thinking was that slight upward angle and sliver of skies would add a sense of depth for the final image processed.

Morning Sunlight Coming in For a New Day (Glacier National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking around the Many Glacier Hotel grounds with a view looking across the mountainsides of Altyn Peak and Apikuni Mountain to the northeast. This is in Glacier National Park. My thought on composing this image was to capture that mountain glow from the morning sunshine. Aligning my camera more to the east, I knew, would blow any highlights as the sun had just risen above some nearby hillsides. I liked that look of glow across the mountainsides and focused on that with this image captured.

I captured this image while I was hiking the Jawbone Trail. Balconies is more or less image center with Machete Ridge coming in from the image right.
