How to blend GIFS

Hey, how are you? If you missed the tutorial on how to make gif in Photoshop, go here. Today we’ll learn how to blend two or more gifs together.

Open your gifs. If you have to delete some layers/frames because the gif is too long, do so. The ones I got were 60/100 layers, so I shortened to 30. Also, I resized the gif file to have 540px and then, moved the second gif to the same file.

Tip: group each gif so it’s easier to work with them.

Copy the second’s gif group and paste it in the first gif file and place it where you want it to be:

Open the Timeline (Window > Timeline). The original gif will play but the second will not, so you have to do it manually by selecting the frame and making the gif’s layer visible one by one:

Now the gif it’s like this:

Now, create a layer mask on the group that’s on top.

If you wish to know more about layer masks, I have a post here where I go through it!

Then use the brush with black as your foreground color to paint what should be invisible.

Now just edit it as you like (don’t forget that to do so the first frame in the timeline must be selected whenever you add anything to the file) and save it (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S).

Como fazer um PNG: Seleção Rápida

Oi, tudo bem?! Hoje estamos iniciando uma série chamada Como fazer um PNG. Essa série é composta por 4 partes, então siga AmateurPS BR para ficar de olho nos próximos tutoriais.

Existem algumas maneiras de usar a Seleção rápida (W). A primeiro é clicar e arrastar na parte que você deseja selecionar. Ou, se a parte que você deseja excluir for mais fácil e rápida (por exemplo, uma foto de edifícios com céu claro e você desejar mudar o céu), selecione o céu e inverta sua seleção (Seleção> Inverter ou Ctrl + Shift + I) e depois prossiga.

A outra maneira é usar diretamente o botão "Selecionar assunto" no menu superior. Isso selecionará automaticamente o assunto na imagem. Em seguida, clique no segundo botão, "Selecionar e mascarar..." para abrir os ajustes. Depois de clicar em OK, crie a máscara de camada.

Vou abordar o primeiro método abaixo!

Dica / Atalho: ao selecionar a opção "adicionar seleção", clique em Alt para acessar rapidamente a "subtrair seleção". Solte a tecla Alt quando terminar.

Outra dica é não excluir o restante da imagem. Em vez disso, crie uma máscara de camada para facilitar a correção de qualquer coisa, se você precisar, e o Ctrl + z não voltará tão longe!

Você vai ter isso:

Você pode ver que o contorno não parece tão bom. Para corrigir isso, você pode clicar com o botão direito na máscara de camada e selecionar "Selecionar e mascarar..." ou apenas clicar em "Selecionar e mascarar..." no menu superior.

Então abaixo está o que você vai ver. Prossiga com os ajustes até obter o resultado desejado e clique em OK. Estas foram as minhas configurações:

E o resultado! Você pode notar que o contorno ficou muito mais suave do que antes.

Simple Revealing Text GIF in Photoshop Tutorial

Hey, how are you? If you haven’t checked out my tutorial on how to make a gif, click here to read it now. In this tutorial, we’ll see how to make a revealing text gif like the one below:

First, you will write the text you want. Then, create a new layer and paint over the text, like so:

Then, open the Timeline (Window > Timeline). The first frame will be the text covered. Create a new frame clicking on this icon:

And move your brush layer to where you want your text to reveal. For example, I moved mine to the right.

Tip: hold Shift while moving the form you painted with the brush to keep it in a straight line.

See where my form is:

Now, select the first frame and click on this icon:

This will create transition frames! After clicking on it, it will open the window below. Fill it with the number of transition frames you want. I choose 7.

Now you should have this:

The last step is to adjust the time of each frame. I thought having the time in 0 seconds were too fast, so I adjust the frames 1-8 to 0.1 sec. and the last frame to 0.2 sec.

To adjust more than one frame at once, click on the first one then hold Shift and click on the last one (mine was 8). Then, click on the arrow to open the menu:

To save your gif, use Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S, making sure the type is set to gif and mode is always.

Vector-like Tutorial

Hey, how are you?! For this tutorial, we’ll see how to create a vector-like graphic in Photoshop. I say vector-like because, as we saw in this post, Photoshop is a pixel-based software so what you’re actually doing are rasters.

Let’s start by choosing a photo you want to rasterize.

Open the Pen tool on Form mode and start outlining your subject by parts (face, hair, shirt, hands, pants, etc). The Pen tool will automatically open a new layer for each shape so you don’t necessarily need to do so.

You can either change the layer’s opacity while having a solid color-filled or, have no color for the shape while outlining and add the color when you’re done. I, personally, prefer the second option.

Then open the color picker and select the tone of her face that you want with the eyedropper.

Tip: you can rename your layers as you go so it’s easier to find what you want later when you have tons of layers. For that, just double click on the layer’s name, it’ll open to rename it. When you’re done, just click Enter.

After you’re done with one part, make the layer invisible so it doesn’t cover up the photo and outline the next part. Once everything was outlined, make everything visible again and rearrange the layers as needed.

And you should have something close to this:

You can see that is very flat and plain, so that’s why we are going to add some shades. To do so, create shapes still with the pen tool, following the shade existing in the photo. For example, her jawline:

For the color, since her face has different tones because of the lighting and you already choose her face color, I recommend going for a couple of shades darker than the color you picked rather than picking the shade’s tone since it can come out darker than the face.

It won’t probably look the best at first but it’ll, indeed, look messy before it looks good. So keep shading till you have everything done.

Tip: at this point of you should have a lot of layers of each part. The keep it organized and easy to work with you can put your layers into groups, separating them by parts. To do that, select the layers you want to group and click the folder icon.

How to easily combine two GIFs with different length together

Hey, how are you? In this tutorial, we’ll see how to combine two gifs with different lengths together.

For example, the primary gif below has 24 frames and the text overlay has only 9. You could manually combine them together but it’d take more of your time. So we’ll see an easier way to do it!

To learn how to create your own gif and add coloring, click here.

First, create your gif or open a premade one and edit it however you like.

Then, create the gif you want to overlay with the elements you want. I went with a quote from the movie.

Tip 1: Since we’ll set the blend mode to Lighten later, make sure your background is black.

Tip 2: The size should be the same as your primary gif.

To create a simple revealing text gif like this one, go to the tutorial here!

Now group your overlay gif to make things easier for the next steps:

Save your gif (Ctrl+Als+Shift+S), close it and open the gif (not a psd file). And click on this icon on both files (very important step, otherwise it won’t work):

Now, drag the overlay gif group to your primary gif file:

Next, set the group’s blend mode to Lighten:

You’ll notice that the overlay group it’s shorter than the primary gif on the timeline:

Duplicate the overlay group (Ctrl+J) and drag in the timeline so it starts when the first one ends (repeat this step till the overlay one has the same or longer length as your primary gif):

Click to go back to the Create Frame Animation:

This window will open, just click continue:

Check if there’s any additional frame that shouldn’t be there and delete it:

And that’s it! Your gif should be working just fine.

Simple Glitch Effect GIF Tutorial

Hey, how are you? In this tutorial, we’ll see how to make this simple glitch effect gif in Photoshop.

Add adjustments to your liking (you can definitely do this step at the end, it’s up to you). Then open the Timeline (Window> Timeline

Duplicate the photo’s layer (Ctrl+J) and double click the duplicated layer to open the Layer Style window.

In this default blending option, let only the Red channel visible and click ok:

Create a new frame in your timeline and move the layer (I moved to the left):

Now, create transition frames. To do so, select the first frame and click on this icon (image below). Then, set how many transition frames you want (I did 3).

Create a new frame and move the layer to the opposite direction:

Select the penultimate frame then click on the transition frame icon and click ok (add the same amount as the previous step). And you’re done!

Save your click Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S and make sure the predefinition is set to gif and the loop option is always.

How to work Side by Side with Full View and Zoomed View

This can be useful when you are working with a project that you have to zoom and go back to full view multiple times to have a better view of what you are doing, like fine details. For that, there’s a quicker away to work!

Go to Window > Arrange > New window for file_name. For example, my file name is “margot-amateurps.png”. Then it will show “New window for margot-amateurps.png”.

Then, you will have two tabs with the same name like so:

To arrange it side by side you can either drag the second tab to the right till a blue line appears like the image below. Then release it.

Or you can go back to Window > Arrange and select “Side by side”:

After that, you can zoom in on one of the tabs and edit.

Everything that you do on the zoomed-in tab you show on the full-size one since it’s the same file. This gives you freedom to work on details while still having an overview of how everything is looking at regular size.

When you are done, you can close the duplicated (full view) tab and save the original (zoomed-in) one!

How to create your own shapes in Photoshop

Hey, how are you? Today we are going to see two ways to create your own shapes in Photoshop!

First way to create a shape

Create a path with the pen tool with the desired shape:

Right-click and click on Define custom shape...:

Name it and click ok:

Now go to the custom shape tool and you will see your shape there!

Second way to create a shape

If you don’t want to create the path yourself or if you already have a picture of a shape you want, you can use the Magic Wand (W) to select it, like so:
