Dodge and Burn Technique: giving life to a photo
Hey, how are you?
*Image from Pexel.
First, edit your graphics/photo however you’d like. When you finished, create a new layer.
Then go to Edit > Fill or use the shortcut Shift+F5.
In the window that will open, choose “50% grey” in Contents and click ok:
Now, change the layer’s blend mode to overlay:
Now, we’ll start to dodge and burn! These are the tools we will use:
The burn will make it darken and the dodge will make it lighter. Whit that in mind, you will choose one (whatever you choose to work first, dodge or burn) and paint over the area you want (in the grey layer!).
Change the opacity of the brush to something around 10-20% so you can build the dodge and burn instead of going too harsh and not being able to ease it out.
Here’s the before and after:
Now, in the same grey layer, add dodge just like you did with burn but change the tool and paint where you want to highlight. Here’s the before and after (only dodge):
Before and after with final result:

I’m back!
Hey, sorry for not posting in the past two-three weeks but as I said on my last post, I was on vacation ヽ(•‿•)ノ
I have one draft tutorial saved but I wanted to edit it before posting so I’ll try to do that between today and tomorrow.
Again, thank you for your support!
Hey, guys!
Welcome for the new followers and thanks for supporting this! Just wanted to let you know that I’m on vacation but we’ll have more tutorials once I’m home again. Again, thank you!
Editing with me I: how I transformed this photo
Hey, how are you? Inspired by these get ready with me videos, I decided to create something like it but in this universe of Photoshop. Today I’ll go over how I edit this icon I posted here a while back.
*Resource: photo here.
First I knew I needed to darken her surroundings since she was too close to the light source in this photo. So I create a new layer and painted with the brush tool around her and changed the blend mode to soft light.
Then, I added a few adjustments (levels, color lookup, curves, and selective color). And this is how it looks now:
I still thought that her face was too light so I created a new layer and painted over her face with the brush tool with low opacity and I changed the blend mode to soft light and lowered the opacity. This is pretty much preference.
Now, to give some color to it, I added a gradient adjustment (not with the gradient tool) and clipped mask it to the surroundings black layer I created first. Blend mode in hard light.
*Gradient colors: #ac50c9 #ff9ab5 #d33838
To add some faded color on her to be more blended, I created a layer above the gradient one and using the eyedropper I picked the color of the background (gradient) and painted how the image shows:
Then I changed the blend mode to screen and lowered the opacity to 27%.
Then I used the dodge and burn technique to bring out some white parts (shoulder, in between her boobs, collar bones, under the eye, the tip of the nose and the hair):
And this is the result:
How to easily combine two GIFs with different length together
Hey, how are you? In this tutorial, we’ll see how to combine two gifs with different lengths together.
For example, the primary gif below has 24 frames and the text overlay has only 9. You could manually combine them together but it’d take more of your time. So we’ll see an easier way to do it!
To learn how to create your own gif and add coloring, click here.
First, create your gif or open a premade one and edit it however you like.
*Gif from The Spectacular Now from Giphy
Then, create the gif you want to overlay with the elements you want. I went with a quote from the movie.
Tip 1: Since we’ll set the blend mode to Lighten later, make sure your background is black.
Tip 2: The size should be the same as your primary gif.
To create a simple revealing text gif like this one, go to the tutorial here!
Now group your overlay gif to make things easier for the next steps:
Save your gif (Ctrl+Als+Shift+S), close it and open the gif (not a psd file). And click on this icon on both files (very important step, otherwise it won’t work):
Now, drag the overlay gif group to your primary gif file:
Next, set the group’s blend mode to Lighten:
You’ll notice that the overlay group it’s shorter than the primary gif on the timeline:
Duplicate the overlay group (Ctrl+J) and drag in the timeline so it starts when the first one ends (repeat this step till the overlay one has the same or longer length as your primary gif):
Click to go back to the Create Frame Animation:
This window will open, just click continue:
Check if there’s any additional frame that shouldn’t be there and delete it:
And that’s it! Your gif should be working just fine.

Simple Glitch Effect GIF Tutorial
Hey, how are you? In this tutorial, we’ll see how to make this simple glitch effect gif in Photoshop.
Add adjustments to your liking (you can definitely do this step at the end, it’s up to you). Then open the Timeline (Window> Timeline
Duplicate the photo’s layer (Ctrl+J) and double click the duplicated layer to open the Layer Style window.
In this default blending option, let only the Red channel visible and click ok:
Create a new frame in your timeline and move the layer (I moved to the left):
Now, create transition frames. To do so, select the first frame and click on this icon (image below). Then, set how many transition frames you want (I did 3).
Create a new frame and move the layer to the opposite direction:
Select the penultimate frame then click on the transition frame icon and click ok (add the same amount as the previous step). And you’re done!
Save your click Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S and make sure the predefinition is set to gif and the loop option is always.
Simple Revealing Text GIF in Photoshop Tutorial
Hey, how are you? If you haven’t checked out my tutorial on how to make a gif, click here to read it now. In this tutorial, we’ll see how to make a revealing text gif like the one below:
First, you will write the text you want. Then, create a new layer and paint over the text, like so:
Then, open the Timeline (Window > Timeline). The first frame will be the text covered. Create a new frame clicking on this icon:
And move your brush layer to where you want your text to reveal. For example, I moved mine to the right.
Tip: hold Shift while moving the form you painted with the brush to keep it in a straight line.
See where my form is:
Now, select the first frame and click on this icon:
This will create transition frames! After clicking on it, it will open the window below. Fill it with the number of transition frames you want. I choose 7.
Now you should have this:
The last step is to adjust the time of each frame. I thought having the time in 0 seconds were too fast, so I adjust the frames 1-8 to 0.1 sec. and the last frame to 0.2 sec.
To adjust more than one frame at once, click on the first one then hold Shift and click on the last one (mine was 8). Then, click on the arrow to open the menu:
To save your gif, use Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S, making sure the type is set to gif and mode is always.

Vector-like Tutorial
Hey, how are you?! For this tutorial, we’ll see how to create a vector-like graphic in Photoshop. I say vector-like because, as we saw in this post, Photoshop is a pixel-based software so what you’re actually doing are rasters.
*Image from Unsplash
Let’s start by choosing a photo you want to rasterize.
Open the Pen tool on Form mode and start outlining your subject by parts (face, hair, shirt, hands, pants, etc). The Pen tool will automatically open a new layer for each shape so you don’t necessarily need to do so.
To learn more about the Pen Tool, click the banner below!
You can either change the layer’s opacity while having a solid color-filled or, have no color for the shape while outlining and add the color when you’re done. I, personally, prefer the second option.
Then open the color picker and select the tone of her face that you want with the eyedropper.
Tip: you can rename your layers as you go so it’s easier to find what you want later when you have tons of layers. For that, just double click on the layer’s name, it’ll open to rename it. When you’re done, just click Enter.
After you’re done with one part, make the layer invisible so it doesn’t cover up the photo and outline the next part. Once everything was outlined, make everything visible again and rearrange the layers as needed.
And you should have something close to this:
You can see that is very flat and plain, so that’s why we are going to add some shades. To do so, create shapes still with the pen tool, following the shade existing in the photo. For example, her jawline:
For the color, since her face has different tones because of the lighting and you already choose her face color, I recommend going for a couple of shades darker than the color you picked rather than picking the shade’s tone since it can come out darker than the face.
This is what I have:
Another example:
It won’t probably look the best at first but it’ll, indeed, look messy before it looks good. So keep shading till you have everything done.
Tip: at this point of you should have a lot of layers of each part. The keep it organized and easy to work with you can put your layers into groups, separating them by parts. To do that, select the layers you want to group and click the folder icon.
And this is my final result:

Photo Treatment: spot healing brush and healing brush in Photoshop
Hey, how are you? In this tutorial, we’ll see how to use the spot healing brush in Photoshop to treat photos.
Spot Healing Brush v Healing Brush
The difference between the Spot Healing Brush and the Healing Brush is that the spot healing brush uses algorithms to work, that means that you just have to paint over what you want to heal and it will do the work for you.
On the other hand, the Healing Brush is manual, which means that first, you have to select the area that will replace the area you want to heal.
Spot Healing Brush
Have the type in Content-Aware.
And start painting over the spots you want to heal:
You have to be very detailed and zoom in and out numerous times but it’s worth it.
Healing Brush
As we saw before, this one is the manual version of the spot healing brush so what you have to do is hold Alt and click in the area that will replace the problem area.
Tip: If your photo has light nuances, be sure to pay attention to that when picking the area to replace.
To replace this mark, I’ll Alt and click in the square area and then, release.
After releasing Alt, when you move your cursor you will see what you selected. I used the background of this photo so you can see better what I’m talking about:
Then, you just have to hover on the area you want to heal and click:
Repeat that as many times as needed.
Tip: change your brush size depending on the size of the are that you want to select and replace.

How to blend GIFS
Hey, how are you? If you missed the tutorial on how to make gif in Photoshop, go here. Today we’ll learn how to blend two or more gifs together.
Open your gifs. If you have to delete some layers/frames because the gif is too long, do so. The ones I got were 60/100 layers, so I shortened to 30. Also, I resized the gif file to have 540px and then, moved the second gif to the same file.
Tip: group each gif so it’s easier to work with them.
Copy the second’s gif group and paste it in the first gif file and place it where you want it to be:
Open the Timeline (Window > Timeline). The original gif will play but the second will not, so you have to do it manually by selecting the frame and making the gif’s layer visible one by one:
Now the gif it’s like this:
Now, create a layer mask on the group that’s on top.
If you wish to know more about layer masks, I have a post here where I go through it!
Then use the brush with black as your foreground color to paint what should be invisible.
Now just edit it as you like (don’t forget that to do so the first frame in the timeline must be selected whenever you add anything to the file) and save it (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S).
And the result:

How to create a seamless pattern in Photoshop
Hey, how are you? In this tutorial, we’ll see how to create a pattern in Photoshop and, more important, a seamless one.
First, create a 1:1 proportion file (mine is 500x500). Create a new layer and make the pattern you want, whether it is with the brush, saved files, shapes. I have some icons that I’ll use for this tutorial.
Arrange your subjects to your liking.
Icon made by Freepik from www.flaticon.com
Then select all the layers and merge them into one, like so:
Then go to Filter > Other > Offset and fill the Horizontal and Vertical with half of your file size. Since my file it’s 500px, I fill it with 250px. Then click ok.
Go to Edit > Define Pattern:
Now you can use it how you’d like. For example, I created a bigger file (1000x1000px), went to Edit > Fill, select Pattern in Contents and select your pattern:
And there you go, a seamless pattern:
Tip: if you want the pattern to be transparent, make the background layer invisible before defining the layer into a pattern.

Hi, thank you so much for your tutorials, they are amazing. They are so detailed and easy to follow
Thank you, it’s really great to read that <3 That’s my goal, try to share what I know about Ps in the easiest way possible so anyone can follow and learn!
How to create your own brushes and customize it in Photoshop
Hey, how are you?! Today we’re going to go through the step by step to make your own brushes and forms in Ps.
Important info before actually creating your brush
In Photoshop's latest version a brush size limit is 5000px. Why do you need to keep that in mind? Because if you want a high-resolution brush, you need to set a file for 5000 x 5000 px to create your brush.
So even if for now, you don’t need a brush that large, in future projects you may so it’s interesting to create a brush bigger than you need.
This is how the brush looks like at 100% when you create it at the size limit:
And this is how the brush will look like at 100% if you created at 1000px but want to use at 5000px:
Using colors
Photoshop uses greyscale to create a brush preset, so anything white (like the background) will be transparent. Black will be black or, later, the foreground color and any other color will be grey. So your background should be white. Like shown in the image below:
This is what happens when your background is black, for example, and what you wanted to be your brush is white (image below). The white part is actually transparent and your brush is the black part.
Creating your brush
So, to start, create a new file to make your brush. Then, create a new layer and draw the brush you want.
Now, go to Edit > Define brush preset.
Name it if you want and click ok. And that’s it!
Customize your brush
Now you can play with the brush settings to create a custom brush (which you can do with any brush). To do so, go to Window > Brush Presets. Then you can change things like spacing, dynamic, texture.
Here are the presets I changed:
And this is how the brush looks like now:
Also, you can make a brush out of anything: from a brush, a photo, a shape. Here’s an example of a brush out of a photo (*from Unsplash):
Delete a brush
If you wish to delete your brush, go to the brush panel and right-click on the brush and click “delete brush”.
