Simple Complications #941
“I mean, let’s be honest,” Elizabeth said. “Most of them probably already know that you’re Amazing Archer. You’re not exactly that good at keeping your identity secret from people you know.” “I mean, not everyone knows,” Curtis said. “And it’s not like the ones that don’t know are going to figure it out just based on your fighting skills. A lot of people can fight without being a costumed vigilante.” “I mean, I suppose. It’ll just be weird, you know. I’ve got kind of used to fighting in costume.” “Are you planning on fighting out of costume?” Bobby asked as he came down the stairs into the lair. “Maybe,” Curtis said. “I might be going on a deep space mission in a few days, but if so it’ll be as Curtis, not as Amazing Archer.” “Can I go?” Bobby asked. “Not a chance,” Curtis said. “Aw come on,” Bobby said. “Why not?” “Well, for starters, Curtis is going out of costume because the captain doesn’t want masked superheroes on her crew,” Elizabeth said. “And as yourself, you’re just a teenager, which I can’t imagine she be okay with either.” “And she’d be right,” Curtis said. “It’s way too dangerous.” “It’s about the Caldore, isn’t it?” Bobby asked. “And that’s why you really don’t want me to go. Because they killed my dad, after you convinced him to help you fight against them.” “Like I said, it’s too dangerous,” Curtis said. “I already have his death on my conscience. I’m not making that mistake again.” “Come on,” Bobby said. “You let me help in fighting all sorts of criminals and such.” “There’s a big difference between common criminals and the military forces of an alien empire,” Curtis said. “You’re not coming with, and that’s final.”
