“can you wait to watch this show for a few minutes while I go brush my teeth?”
“you bet” *IMPULSIVELY BUYS TWO VOLUMES OF BUCKY BARNES THE WINTER SOLDIER AND TWO STAR WARS BOOKS*
why don't you like goodreads?
Boy oh boy! (This will by rant-y.)
First of all, Goodreads relies on a star rating system, which I fundamentally dislike. Stars boil down to numbers which you have to assign meaning towards, which everyone does differently, and I get way too stressed out about. (Litsy, by comparison gives you four options: a “pick” thumbs up, a “so-so” thumbs sideways, a “pan” thumbs down, and a “bail” parachute.)
Additionally, I never found a community (because I didn’t like it from the get-go) and without a specific readers that I jive with to follow, I would only browse prominent reviews on individual books. But those prominent reviews seemed very stagnant, not even to mention long-winded and/or paltry.
Last of all, Goodreads is owned by Amazon and Amazon is the devil. (But what I really mean is I’m uncomfortable with how powerful Amazon is at the expensive of local economies and small businesses. I do not support that cheaper/easier=better.)
Also, Litsy has some great new approaches to offer! Posts don’t have to be reviews, but can also be random “blurbs” or quotes–and all can feature a photo to focus the post. Yes, these are things you can do here on Tumblr or Instagram, but with Litsy all posts about a book are linked together and easily navigable. Don’t get me wrong, Litsy has a lot of kinks to work out, but it’s only been live for something like two months now (and has already fixed some of its irksome bits). So everyone should check it out and find me as asketchyeducation there too. /litsy promotion
Apparently I can now order ice cream from Amazon and have it delivered in 2 hours or less. Jesus fucking Christ. Why would they do that to me? The whole process would only require me to wear pants for maybe 2 minutes tops while answering the door. Damn you, Amazon! Stop enabling my worst tendencies.
amazon hate on my dash that makes my tiny heart sing
BUT THIS IS SO IMPORTANT.
Showrooming. YOUR BRICK AND MORTAR STORES ARE NOT SHOWROOMS, PEOPLE.
