In an effort to save the dwindling population, Peru is releasing 500,000 yellow-spotted Amazon river turtles into the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve after caring for the vulnerable species while they hatched.

If you like turtles you’ll be pleased to know that this little cutie is one of 500,000 baby yellow-spotted Amazon River turtles that are being released by a government conservation group in Peru. The turtles, also known as taricayas, now have a much better chance of long-term survival. Good news, yes?
