Amber has been through a lot, but she’s never let it get to her. She’s the type of person who always finds a way through and is extremely resilient in whatever the world throws at her. She’s a fun loving person, one who will go out of her way to try and brighten up someones day whenever she can, however she can. But that doesn’t mean she’s a pushover, not in the slightest, she stands firm in every aspect of her life and is someone you can always rely on in a crisis. She’s very protective of her heart and will only let friends in, anyone else will have to work ten times as hard to even get close.
portrayed by Freema Agyeman; penned by Heather Belle.
full biography / background
triggering / sensitive content warning: death, spousal death, war mention, alcoholism, premature birth, death of an infant.
Amber was very much born to be a city girl. She decided early on that London was the place for her, she’d become a high-flying businesswoman and spend her weekends staying in the most expensive hotels sipping on Cristal champagne. All of that came crashing down around her when she turned 15 and her father up and moved the whole family across the ocean to Maine, to the tiny town of Merrock to be exact.
She struggled to fit in, was always going to, she was the strange kid from England who clearly hated everything and everyone around her. That was up until Daniel stepped into her life anyway. Amber never planned on falling in love, especially in high school, but that was exactly what happened. She ended up graduating on complete and utter cloud nine, something that lasted up until the day he told her he was going into the army.
Things after that became a blur. An undeclared major at college, a dead end job, with sporadic visits from Dan. Back and forth, back and forth, it wasn’t really the life she’d asked for.
Then one year, at the holidays, he came home and he proposed. It was an instant yes. Naturally. And then six weeks later, she made the discovery she was pregnant. She didn’t think that life could actually get any better.
And she was right.
Three months down the line she received the news that Dan had been killed while serving overseas. At first she didn’t believe it, wouldn’t believe it, but as the news sunk in her dependency on alcohol began. Drinking erased the memories, staved off the nightmares that threatened each night and two months later she went into premature labour. She knew it was too early, she panicked, she screamed and she cried. Jessica Ada was born 17th June 2005 and lived only a week.
Shortly afterwards, Amber made the decision to travel to Boston to stay with a friend and that’s where she got herself sober again and began to attend therapy. She started a brand new life, even chose to go back to college to try again, studying medicine, eventually specialising in midwifery.
It took her a very long time to start dating again. She dipped her toe in and out of relationships, still undecided if the time would ever actually come that she found someone again. She told herself it didn’t matter though, even if sometimes she felt ridiculously lonely. Briefly, there was someone she thought things could move forward with, move forward properly, but she was too damaged, the situation too complicated and it all fell apart again. She chose to focus on friendships instead.
Upon finishing her training, she moved back to Merrock once more, finding herself a job at the hospital there.
Over the last couple of years, she has finally developed something with someone she works with. It was very much a slow burn, from colleagues to friends, from friends to lovers, from lovers to... well they don’t know what yet. They’re still figuring that part out. All she knows is that she is happy right now, but she still thinks of Dan every single day.

Sage nodded in understanding. “I remember making the mistake of coming down here one afternoon on a weekend back in July” they said. “It must have been the height of tourist season, because I couldn’t walk more than two feet without having to dodge someone’s beach towel.” They expected it would be the same this summer, so they were making a point to cram in as many nice beach days as possible before the tourist season began. “I’m a writer” they explained. “When a lot of your days involve staring at a computer screen, changing location can help inspire you.” Which is why Sage currently had a notebook and pen in the oversized bag they were carrying.
From the moment that Amelia had started at Catalina Medical Center, she had hit it off with Amber and that definitely made her feel at ease a lot more. Having a friend and someone who actually understood the struggles at work… That meant a lot to the woman. So far her new colleagues had been nice and fun so that was good. They found themselves on the couch of Amelia’s new home. With Diane at Seth back in Massachusetts for the rest of the school year, it was definitely lonely in the house, she missed her daughter like crazy but she would see her on the weekend again. So spending time with family and friends filled that temporary hole. Tonight with Amber was no difference, definitely when you entered the Nintendo Switch into the mix. They were both - or definitely Amelia - was way too competitive and the game was no difference. It did not help that Amber seemed to be a natural at it and she was beating Amelia big time. “No! This is the third time you’ve won already,” Amelia exclaimed loudly, very happy that Diane was not laying in bed at that moment because she was pretty sure that she would’ve woken up due to the loud noises from the kitchen. “Are you unable to let me win just one?” she laughed at her friend as she leaned over to pick up the glass of wine and took a sip of it.
