Researchers have developed a safer, cheaper, better performing and more flexible battery option for wearable devices. A paper describing the "recipe" for their new battery type was published in the journal Nano Research Energy on June 3. Fitness trackers. Smart watches. Virtual-reality headsets. Even smart clothing and implants. Wearable smart devices are everywhere these days. But for greater comfort, reliability and longevity, these devices will require greater levels of flexibility and miniaturization of their energy storage mechanisms, which are often frustratingly bulky, heavy and fragile. On top of this, any improvements cannot come at the expense of safety. As a result, in recent years, a great deal of battery research has focused on the development of "micro" flexible energy storage devices, or MFESDs. A range of different structures and electrochemical foundations have been explored, and among them, aqueous micro batteries offer many distinct advantages.

The hat remains silent. The first hat stall of the evening, then. There’s usually a few.
Regulus had been one.
Octavia’s fingers are twisting together in her lap. The hat slipped low on her head, down over her eyes to rest on the bridge of her nose. Her lips are moving minutely, chanting something over and over.
Regulus wonders if she wants to be in Gryffindor and glances over at the sister standing tense at the Gryffindor table. She’s only a few seats down from Sirius and all his friends.
What a stupid thing to wonder. Of course she wants to be in Gryffindor.
He’d wanted to be in Gryffindor. Wanted to be with his brother.
In the end, it didn’t matter what he wanted.
“SLYTHERIN!”
Regulus jumps, convinced for a moment that he’s traveled back in time. But then his table leaps to their feet, and he knows he’s firmly in the present.
Octavia lifts the hat from her head and slides shakily from the stool. She looks over at the Gryffindor table and locks eyes with her sister. He wishes he knew the girl better so that he might decipher whatever expression is on her face.
He follows her gaze to the sister to see if she is any easier to read but his eyes find Sirius instead. Staring at him like he’d been transported back in time as well.
Regulus hears a faint ringing in his ears and his eyes feel like twin bruises, Sirius’ gaze pressing down into the tender flesh.
