Something was very wrong. Henry couldn’t shake the knot forming in the pit of his stomach. He had double and even triple checked his files. Over the course of two months, fifteen files had mysteriously disappeared. And all of them belonged to muggleborns. Three more had disappeared this morning. Just like he did ever night, he had not only locked his office, but had place powerful charms to protect it.
Henry’s office contained the files of every witch and wizard, as soon as they were registered. This included muggleborns, half-bloods and purebloods. It also included squibs. And Henry had a unique and very specific filing system. He never misplaced anything. He had started to notice files going missing about two weeks after the first ones were gone. At first, he doubted himself. Maybe he’d screwed up somewhere. But, no, he knew his system worked. Sure enough, a week later, more were gone. It was subtle enough that anyone else might not notice, but Henry wasn’t just anyone.
He hadn’t told anyone his suspicions yet, because they were just that. Suspicions. And if there was in fact corruption in the Ministry? Then there were very few people he could trust. However, one of them was his little sister, and so he had arranged to meet Amelia for lunch. They were meeting at Betsy’s and Henry was happy to see his sister, despite the circumstances. He arrived a bit earlier and found a good seat inside at one of the booths. He ordered a butterbeer but waited to order food until Amelia arrived.
