manifesto
I kinda don’t want to kick it with anyone who doesn’t believe these 4 things. And is Pro-Choice.
1. The United States was founded by white supremacist settler-colonialists and built on the labor of enslaved African people and the genocide of what were sovereign indigenous nations.
2. The United States has never reconciled its bloody beginnings with its espoused values. Therefore, those of us who endeavor to work for justice must understand that we live in a nation whose policies by design disproportionately benefit cis-gender, heterosexual, wealthy, white males. Our institutions and the hierarchies within them, reflect and frequently reproduce white supremacy, hetero-normativity, and an understanding of history and professional practice that is rooted in the preferences of the dominant culture.
3. Social justice demands that we be honest about our history and be willing to critically examine our privilege. We must understand that privilege exists and we have it whether we want it or not. We must understand that not wanting privilege is not the same as not having it.
4. We must combat our own defensiveness if we are serious about the goal of achieving a truly just society.
