Description

Cheryl Laemmle’s mysterious, surrealistic paintings contain private stories about the artist’s inner life, often alluding to themes of melancholy, memory, and imperfection. Using personal symbolism drawn from childhood, dreams, and fairytales, this self-portrait is an allegorical still-life painting conjuring the psyche of the artist through the juxtaposition of metaphysical objects. The long, carefully painted, braided hair evokes fables of princesses in towers waiting to be set free, while the bottle and cage connote isolation and imprisonment.

Mary Earley (*1900-1992) #bornOnThisDay was an American painter known for her New Deal era murals. Born 1900, in St. Louis, Earley moved to Chicago with her family and then located to New York City. She attended the Art Students League of New York where she studied with Kenneth Hayes Miller, Kimon Nicolaïdes, and William C. Palmer.[1] In 1940, Earley's mural Down-Rent War, Around 1845 was installed in the Delhi, New York post office. It was sponsored by the Treasury Section of Fine Arts (TSFA). The mural was one of the winner of the New Deal 48-State Competition Post Office murals. In 1941, Earley's mural Dance of the Hop Pickers was installed in the Middleburgh, New York post office. It was sponsored by the TSFA. Earley died in 1992, aged 91 or 92. Earley's study for the Down-Rent War, Around 1845 is in the Smithsonian American Art Museum. via W

Eleanor Norcross | Ella Augusta "Eleanor" Norcross (June 24, 1854 – October 19, 1923) was an American painter.

She lived the majority of her adult life in Paris, France, as an artist and collector and spent the summers in her hometown of Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Norcross painted Impressionist portraits and still lifes, and is better known for her paintings of genteel interiors. via W
