Mugshot Monday - “Ameriprise Financial Unsung Hero” mug with Pollinator Blend by Peace Coffee

I’m not the unsung hero referenced by this mug. Instead, I want to thank all the people -- all the unsung heroes -- who gave me the confidence to speak at Ignite Minneapolis last Thursday.

My talk went SUPER GOOD -- better than I imagined it would go. I was confident, but soooooo nervous. I still can’t believe I did it.

I work at Ameriprise and my work family came out in full force to cheer me on! They even waved signs and cheered and offered up raucous applause! It was amazing! But the support they gave me BEFORE the talk was even more important to me, and I wanted to publicly say ‘thank you’ by posting this Mugshot Monday.

I’m terrified of public speaking, but I know I shouldn’t be. Which is why I submitted my talk idea that led to me getting on a stage in front of about 900 people. Ignite Minneapolis is an eventing of 18 talks on different and inspiring topics and each presentation is 5 minutes with 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds. I went first on Thursday.

My coworkers and I are on the consumer marketing team at Ameriprise and this coffee mug was used years ago to recognize really great work -- perhaps work that was important yet flew under the radar. I only have it because a box of leftovers was found and I got to keep one. 

I didn’t earn the mug of course, but I’ll raise it today and say thanks to my Ameriprise peeps! I’m the only one who knows about all the encouraging words I received leading up to the talk. I couldn’t have done it without you.

Also thanks goes out to my wife Cindy for all the feedback & edits, Aly for the coaching, Patrick for producing Ignite, Zach for being an amazing emcee, Arik for pushing me to submit a topic and the many many others who gave me confidence. So many unsung heroes! So grateful.
