When I was 16 years old, I was given an album named “All Hail West Texas”. I learned that when I was 11 years old, I had lived in the same neighborhood as a guy named John Darnielle.
I know that this album is about professional wrestling, but every time I hear a new song by The Mountain Goats, I can’t help thinking that it’s about my life growing up in Ames, Iowa. John Darnielle is a legend to me like these wrestlers were to him.
