==> Tyler: Sigh
He stood up from the hard, plastic seat he'd been in the last twenty minutes and walked outside once more. He left his duffel-bag behind, no one was going to steal a GI:s dirty laundry, especially not in Texas...
Well, that's what he hoped anyway. Glancing up and down the street, he only saw the same sight that had greeted him last time he'd gone out to check. A few cabs with their drivers smoking, reading books or sleeping, waiting for someone to come by and grab their car for a ride to a hotel, or wherever else they were staying.
He couldn't afford it, he hadn't brought any cash with him and his credit card wasn't working anymore. There was a new one waiting for him at home, and he'd planned ahead and made sure his sister would've ordered a taxi for him to drive him home.
But so much for that plan. He took out his cellphone and considered ordering a new ride, but he knew his dad would get on his ass about it. You should've called me, I would've picked you up, Are you still ashamed of us?
Truth is, he wasn't, he just didn't want to force his dad, whose economy was already strained, to drive all the way to the airport to pick up his son. No, he'd rather walk.
He went in again and took up his bag, slung it over a shoulder and began walking. He knew the way... roughly. It'd be who knows how many hours, but it's not like the army hadn't taught him to walk.
He'd been going for about 30 minutes when he realized he was still holding his phone. He looked down and saw the number of a person he hadn't spoken to in years. For some reason, he'd typed it in without even thinking about it. For a moment he hovered over the red button, but then he moved his thumb... and pressed green.
"...Hey, Vri-Victoria? It's Tyler, you know, from Highschool...?"
