The meaning of Amjad, Taichi’s name in the Arabic dub

I think it’s a pretty safe bet to say that Taichi’s name in Arabic, Amjad (j is pronounced like g), became one of the most well-known Anime Leader-protagonist names of the late 90s here, and hearing the name still invokes this kid in our minds till this day. 

Amjad fits Taichi’s personality very well, because the most common interpretation of the name is ‘He Who Seeks Glory/Pride’. This makes sense when you consider that Taichi’s crest is that of Courage, and remember his more reckless/stubborn moments in the series, especially during the earlier half. 

The second interpretation is roughly ‘He Who Calls the Shots’, and that is the leadership role Taichi finds himself in when he returns to the Digital World after episode 21, and brings his team together again, and grows as a person and leader. 

(On a side note, I love that the dub team did not take the easy way out and give Daisuke a similar-meaning name. Far from it, in fact. No matter what some fans might think, Daisuke and Taichi have different personalities.)
