☕+ CONSORT KANG'S ENDING and lowkey her storyline in general
ough my conniving bbg I miss her!
I think kang as a character is very interesting, because through ji-yeong we learn that history remembers her as the mastermind behind all of the king's worst acts and decisions, but when we actually examine kang's place in the king's life, her role is actually very dependent on the king's feelings towards her and prince jesan's hold on the king. however, this doesn't mean that kang isn't the type to take matters into her own hands, regardless of the consequences. In this way, she kind of mirrors ji-yeong. she is also very devoted to jesan (he is pretty devoted to her) in a similar way that ji-yeong and the king are devoted to each other, which I was surprised by. kang is also a character with a lot of depth and very interesting relationships that I wish were explored more. which brings me to her storyline:
I think kang's storyline had very strong points, but because the show takes a lot of time to pause her politicking for the romance and comedy, it just gets paused a lot? Despite that, she was still the most interesting to watch. While we see her committing so many cruel acts, I think you can see that this is essentially her rising from the ashes story, and I liked that story didn't shy away from the messier aspects of that kind of quest. I think the weakest parts of her storyline was anything to do with ji-yeong and the king (to a degree). I actually liked kang and the king's relationship in the first few episodes and in the second last episode because you can clearly see the king's affection for her, despite literally everyone disliking her and thinking that she's going to be his downfall. the king was very clearly in love with her and kang had some affection for him given how affected she was at his last words to her (something along the lines of “the ones who we treasure the most end up stabbing us” or something). However, since the show is only twelve episodes long (very long ones sure, but A LOT happens in each one so) and we need to root for this very difficult romance between the king and ji-yeong, kang's relationship with the king becomes very one sided very quickly. kang becomes the thorn in ji-yeong's side and it's hard to believe that the king was once wrapped around her finger only a few days prior. so I think the only thing I would desperately want to change is how fast kang and the king's relationship is forgotten about. (but then again, song-jae was doing his utmost to distract the king with ji-yeong and they did say that kang was only the king's latest obsession so who knows? but that reminds me that I needed to see kang and song-jae beef more)
As for kang's ending: god it hurt so much to see my two faves face off, like yes gong-gil avenge your sister but not my girl kang! but it was expected since everyone who “wrongly killed” were killed in turn ig. at the same time, I do like how she died. she died as she lived, taking her life in her own hands and refusing to let another man be her demise (and I'm not sure, but I think she used the same knife she killed chuwol with).
In short, I loved her and she should have been more present (also love that they gave her the best hanboks of the cast. very real of them)
reynabeth hcs?
well hey! I think that of the both of them, reyna is the one who drives regular vehicles no problem. she even has a license which astonishes annabeth, who will pilot a helicopter or steer a ship, but gets really anxious behind the wheel of a car.
and I think they would smoke together pretty well.
tkc reread tonight queen? -@brooklyn-house
already started and I do still love it!
meebs is this my sign to watch madoka.. its been on my to watch list for ages
YEEEESSS IT IS 🌀🌀you want to watch madoka magica so badly it's astounding 🌀🌀🌀 you want to watch magical girls so badly 🌀🌀🌀
actually no. whatever is happening in vicious is crazier than that. the brunette guy dates a girl who physically looks near identical to the blonde guy though & the blonde guy is completely asexual and considers this a platonic lifelong mutual hatred
when I was listening to the audiobook, I think last year, I got as far as the girlfriend being introduced but the narrator was just so… dry and I couldn't find the book at my library BUT I do plan on reading vicious as soon as school break hits next month. these guys sound very interesting
HIII MEEBS 🥰🥰 I have no secrets really to tell u I think I'd just say it all out there anyways. I love your 10 min voice messages you give to me genuinely I see it and I'm like "ok I need to schedule a time for meebs podcast 🙏" your analysis are very thorough and get me thinking SO much about The Media. I have questionnn do you have a media you got into that has such a complex lie it's like, near impossible to talk about without ruining it ?? I just finished expedition 33 there's like an entire fucked up estranged family going on disguised behind the games concept "people die at 33 ooohh go fix it" ITS.. damn it now I'm waiting for friends to enjoy it. how bout you
GLOOMYYYY!!! kicking my feet rn yessss I love talking abt media with friends and I'm so glad you like and listen to my thoughts <33333 *gripping each other's shoulders as we talk about The Media*
uhhh I'd have to say revolutionary girl utena. if someone were to ask me to explain the dueling grounds or the castle in that anime without spoilers, it would be so impossible. like even explaining if it's y'know THERE is an entire spoiler that could ruin the entire anime. but it's such a good and complex anime, it's very normal to watch it twice.
(and I feel like I've heard of expedition 33 a few times, but I'll have to see)
ekko for the ask game<3
favourite thing about them: I love that he never gives up on the things/people he cares about. I know that in ep7 of season 2, he mentions how he almost gave up on the dream he had for the undercity to turn into that au, but um that is not correct. ekko has never given up on the undercity and he has never given up on the ppl there and it's shown by how he had to grow up so fast and become the boy savior. he is literally more savior than boy throughout arcane which is why his relationships with vi and jinx are so heartbreaking because those relationships force him to be reminded of the time when he hadn't been a saviour at all, when he hadn't needed to have the entire community depend on him. ughh my boy
least favourite thing about them: ekko deserved to kill a few enforcers. jinx is the only one who does, even in the enemy amv, and that's not fairrr. also the fact that they give him the killmonger cut during that era of black male characters ONLY having that style. 'twas an epidemic after black panther. don't get me wrong, it's still such a good hairstyle on him but like give him the dread mohawk, it's so easy just don't sweep his hair to the side.
favourite line: “It's not enough to give people what they need to survive, you need to give them what they need to live.”
brOTP: ekko and vi's relationship was so precious to me in season 1 for all the reasons I pointed out above and I would have loved to see them interact in season 2 especially after jinx's “death”
OTP: timebomb but like season 1 timebomb. don't get me wrong, season 2 timebomb is great and I love them BUT there's a reason I prefer the enemy amv to the ma meilleure ennemie amv and it's just that I am in love with the implications of possible interactions between powder era and canon season 1 era. also their fight in season 1 changed me fundamentally. THERE IS SO MUCH SPICE HEREEE
nOTP: uhh I haven't seen ppl ship him with anyone other than jinx but ig him and jayce?? not only is that a thirty something year old man, but also ekko does nawttt like him. on a fundamental level (think jinx and victor hatership)
random headcanon: despite the green pallet, his favourite colour is actually orange and it's hard to incorporate that colour dye in his outfits because they'll make him stand out too much on missions.
unpopular opinion: well. it's a bit random, but I think a lot of the time he spent understanding heimerdinger should have been spent talking with sevika esp with where season 2 was going with her. also ekko is not like miles, timebomb is not ghostflower. the comparisons are stupid as shit.
song I associate with them: dynasties and dystopia by denzel curry; étouffé by vince staples
favourite picture of them:
the first because whenever he's annoyed, he does this thing with his nose that makes him look younger and the second because he looks cool.
