The blue panda lily, Yangchen rarely thought of the possibility of the flower, she imagined it as something impossible. A traditionally white and black flower found on the tops of volcanoes in the northern regions of the Earth Kingdom. When she thought of the blue panda lily, she imagined it being a water lily found in one of the numerous deeper ponds on the Ha Mai Islands of the Fire Nation. It would be the colour of the turquoise on the necklace she gifted Kavik with stripes of impossible inky black. In her most indulgent moods, she could imagine spending an afternoon wading in a pond looking for the flower with her skirts rolled up as Kavik called to her on the other end of the pond and Pik and Pak flew ahead. The daydream always saddened her in the end. Kavik thought of the flower often. There were moments in between missions and downtime where he would find a minor obsession with botany. He would scour scrolls upon scrolls of various flower species and their many possibilities. The panda lily itself was already a particular flower, so why wouldn't there be a possibility of a blue one somewhere? Perhaps there were different variants of the specific type of flower? He imagines scouring the mountains back in Long Stretch with Yangchen on her glider as they try to find a bluer variant of the Sheber fawn lily with spots of black. Or flying on Kaatru with the Avatar during the moderate summer of the South West regions of the Earth Kingdom to find a long-stemmed and multi-flowered panda ubani flower. Or finally, going to the Eastern Air Temple and searching along the southern forests to find tufted blue lilies with black stamens and buds. It's more likely that his madness-induced searches in the great libraries Yangchen brings him along to will lead to nothing, but years pass and he still thinks of the resigned sadness in the Avatar's shoulders when she is banished from the Northern Air Temple. He will do all he can, even if she has given up.
