Late Ride Home Part 2
A few people requested a part 2 to Late Ride Home. I’m really enjoying this and might even do a part 3 if people want it.
You had one hand propped under your chin, keeping your head from hitting the desk. You had been staring into space for at least the last 5 minutes, chewing off the cap of a pen. You’d been in court all morning and most of the afternoon testifying for a case. Now you were seated at your desk heels kicked off as you made an attempt to finish the paperwork from the night before (oh, and battling boredom).
Something entered your field of vision and it took a moment for your brain to catch up, eyes focusing to see a steaming cup of coffee sitting on your desk. And not precinct coffee either, a cup of the good stuff from around the corner.
“You know, you really shouldn't chew on that.” Your eyes moved from the coffee to the person who delivered it to you. Nick stood next to your desk, leaning slightly on it with a smirk on his lips. “If it breaks your gonna get ink all in your mouth.” You pulled the pen out of your mouth with a slightly bashful smile and lowered your hand to your desk.
“Thank you for the coffee.” You released the pen letting it drop before wrapping both hands around the steaming cup. You lifted it to your lips blowing slightly before taking a small sip off the top. Not too hot, perfect, another big gulp. “Mmm.” Nick remained leaning on your desk, hands nervously playing with his coffee’s sleeve.
“Two cream, one sugar right?” He asked and you hummed sitting back in your chair as you continued to sip.
“It’s perfect, Nick.” You assured him, biting down on the inside of your cheek and taking another sip to hide your smile at the red that began to cover his ears.
“Perfect,” He repeated giving you one of those rare and breathtaking Amoro smiles, “yeah, good. Perfect.” You both sat making casual conversation as you finished your coffees, paperwork all forgotten.
Olivia came out of her office, shutting the light off as she left, wrapping a scarf around her neck and making her way towards the two of you.
“How’s the paperwork coming?” She asked, and your eyes snapped down, panic rising as your brain tried to come up with an excuse besides ‘Oh, sorry, I was busy swimming in Amaro’s eyes, I couldn’t concentrate.’
“Don’t worry, just a coffee break, Sarg.” Nick assured her in that smooth way only he really could. Olivia smiled before nodding her head and turning to leave.
“Alright, don’t stay too late.” She called over her shoulder, leaving you and Nick alone once more. You sat for another moment before watching Nick set his coffee down, going about collecting your papers. You allowed him to finish before laughing,
“Are you going to tell me how I’m supposed to finish all this paperwork with you cleaning it up?” Nick grinned neatly putting the stack of papers into your bag.
“You heard Liv, I thought if it were alright with you we might go finish somewhere else,” It was your turn to blush. “My house is free, and I’ve got a pretty big coffee table… oh, and a Keurig.”
“You had me at Keurig.” You grinned standing up and quickly tossing the now empty paper cup into the garbage can next to your desk. Nick grinned at you before faking hurt.
“Hey! That’s the last thing I said!” You both laughed before Nick moved to his own desk pulling on his coat and scarf. You slipped your heels back onto your tired feet and pulled your coat on finally tossing your bag over your shoulder.
You and Nick left the precinct together, going back to your casual conversation from earlier. You hit the parking garaged and the cold air took you slightly by surprise. It was a lot nicer out when you left your apartment this morning, and you now regretted wearing the skirt and thinner winter coat.
“Cold?” Nick asked as you huddled slightly into your jacket walking briskly towards the far end of the parking garage. You gave Nick a slight shrug and smile.
“It was nice this morning!” Nick laughed nudging you slightly as you walked before pulling the scarf from around his own neck and tossing it around yours. “Nick,” you protested, but it was futile. The material was soft and already warm from his body heat, “You don’t have to.” You finished weakly, tying the scarf around your neck; it even smelled like Nick.
You reached the car and slipped in, Nick doing the same. He quickly turned it on, making sure the heat was up before sitting back. You rubbed your hands together before holding them up to the air vent, Nick watched you with a small smile. After you could feel your fingers again you sat back buckling up.
“Ready?” You nodded, Nick smiled, you blushed.
“Ready.”
He put the car into drive and pulled out of the parking spot, and just like that you were off to Nick’s.
